Driver side mirror
Driver side mirror
Hello!
I'm new to the forum, just bought an 05 TL and so far I love it. Only thing wrong with it is that the driver side mirror glass is discolored. Is this easy to fix yourself? I understand some people on the forum can give price quotes for parts? Any help would be great!!

Better still, replace the glass with a Multivex which eliminates the blind spot, something the original mirrors suffer from.

I've read before that this happens to mirrors with heaters, like ours have (no idea on reasoning or legitimacy of the claim).
I noticed a brown discoloration on the bottom edge of both my mirrors after a long winter of keeping the heaters on almost all the time.

I can only seem to find info on the cause of this in forums, so I really can't be sure.
A more detailed explanation I read is that ice accumulating at the bottom of a mirror (which can happen w/mirror heaters when it's really really cold) will melt close to the mirror but be unable to escape, then leak into the layer between the glass and the reflective backing.
Another theory was that the expansion and contraction of said ice accumulation cracks the anti-fog gel layer, allowing it to leak and discolor the reflective layer.
I can attest to the fact that ice had something to do with it. after some nasty weather there was a layer of ice at the bottom of mine for about a week before I melted it off with some hot water (which might also have contributed). Both mirrors came out with brownish discoloration on the bottom edges where the ice had been.
