Driver Side - Inboard CV Joint Bearing

Happy New Year All,

First and foremost, thanks to everyone who has posted and assisted on this forum at one time or another. Although many people have sold their cars, or moved on from the forum, the database that is still present, and "revived" as people encounter similar situations as others, is a excellent resource. So are the responses from active users/techs, as I've searched the forums, and I'm hoping to get some help now.

What started as a "simple" compliance bushing replacement has turned into a huge fiasco that I'll write about later. What I'm looking for now, is anyone (preferably in the So. Cal - L.A. area) who may have an old inner CV joint that would fit an '05 TL laying around. More specifically, I need (1) bearing from that "spider' "Y-shaped" contraption that is inside of the inner CV joint, as one of my bearings has a cracked case. I'm told that the bearing is not sold by itself, and online searches show me that I can only buy the entire joint (cup, bearings, Y-shaped, spider contraption) for close to $100. I've attached some pictures to help explain the problem.

I'll be checking the junkyard, and the dealership next, but thought I'd try here first.

Thanks in advance

As you mentioned, it appears that you can only get that individual bearing only by purchasing an entire inboard joint assembly.

I can't tell from your pictures, but is there any kind of alfa-numeric symbols stamped on either side of the cases? You are probably aware that if that identification data is present, it may be 'searchable' on the interwebs through specialty bearing companies.

Otherwise, searching salvage yards for a low cost comparable axle unit may be your only recourse to get that specific bearing. In addition, if you can cross reference the ACURA axle assembly part numbers 44306SEPA02 (left); 44305SEPA02 (right) specific to your car model and can match them to a comparable HONDA car model axle assembly part #, you increase the probability of finding either while searching salvage dramatically.

Also, if you search the interwebs for local axle rebuilding shops, they may be able to point you in the right direction, as well.

Why not just purchase a remanufactured left side half-shaft
RockAuto has them for @ $42, maybe $60 local.
Used in FL $50-$125.
ebay has a used one for $37, free shipping.

Thanks Zeta & Turbo,

There were no numbers on the bearings, but I had looked at the vehicle compatibility notes online while looking up the inboard joint assembly, and had a list cars that I was also looking for at the junkyard. Fortunately, I got lucky and found an '05 TL at a local junkyard, and all I had to do was pluck the bearings out of axles that were already removed and laying on the ground. My day was made! As a backup, I had also made contact with another member whose axle had unfortunately broken a few days ago, and he was willing to help me out by opening the boot of his broken axle, and sending me the bearings as well. Great group of peeps we have around here. I've attached some pics of my lucky find...

I'm with Turbo: I'd just buy a new axle assembly from Advanced Auto for ~$50. Seems like a lot of searching and work to save $50 (if you even saved that much after the time spent looking around and making the junk yard purchase). Plus, you are now using used bearings in your joint whereas a new axle assembly would have new bearings.

Anyhow, good luck.
