I also noticed that I have this problem 2 weeks ago. Thought it was my rims or tires, but just got that stuff checked out and rebalanced, so I eliminated those angles. I definitely have what is being described in this thread. I have an 06 TL Automatic. Wonder if there is a fix for this, and it is definitely more noticeable in colder mornings.

Check the May 20, 2005 Acura TSB (service bulletin) posted by Ron A. to see if this 5th gear vibration/drone applies to your problem.

I know I must have this. Whenever I am cruising around 40-60 mph and around ~1.5rpm my pedal vibrates a little. I took it to the dealer and told him about it and, of course, he says "I didn't notice anything". Of course he didn't because he doesn't want to fix it. Douches. At least it isn't too annoying and I don't really notice it anymore so I'm ok with it.

I bought 2 new front rims that have no curb damage or "repair" and 2 new front tires that had bubbles in the tires, and that totally fixed my vibration problem.

Anyone find a permanent solution here? I'm thinking maybe motor mounts? Transferring vibration directly to the driver. It's friggin annoying.

I have an appt with my Acura dealer on Tuesday to look at the driveline vibration and drone/hum sound around 1500 rpm. I will bring a copy of the TSB for 2004 models, and hopefully they will attempt to address this by way of the TSB or find something else as the issue. I'll let everyone know how it goes....

Well I went to the dealership today...nothing wrong with anything visible. Got the tires ALL rebalanced...awesome but did not solve the problem altogether. Had the service foreman GURU take a ride in the car with the tech and guess what? He immediately points to the driver's side driveshaft. I have one on order for Friday.

When I lowered the car, I forgot the washer for the support of the car on the driver side suspension. I drove around the block like that before realizing it and had a bad clunking noise. Put it all back together and then got this weird vibration. I'm thinking I damaged the half shaft axle. Either way, seems smarter to just do one at a time. This guy knows what he's talking about so I HOPE this solves my problem.

I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Well I have read this thread front to back and one sitting and I am concerned to say the least. I am planning on replacing my 1994 Accord in the spring/summer and the two cars on the top of my list are the TL and the TSX. After reading this thread I am a little bit worried about purchasing a TL. I haven't really seen any summary or definitive answers to any of this so can someone please help me break this down? I know that this is a forum for modification, support, and help so really that means the majority of people who has this problem post about having it while the majority of people who don't have it don't post and don't care. My big question is this, what is an honest, educated guess as to the percentage of TL's that have this problem?

Now let's try and break this down. I am assuming a drivetrain/vibration issue of some sort has been found in ALL 3G TL's (Feel free to correct me about anything) but they are different flavor depending on AT vs. MT.

Let's start with AT...
It's due to a low engine RPM to transmission match Honda choose to boost fuel economy and is present from 50-65mph in 5th gear. Simply switching to 4th IMMEDIATELY resolves the issue. There was a TSB as well as some people playing with a exhaust hanger but both seem to be hit or miss and there is NO current end-all solution to this issue.

Here are my questions for AT TL's. Did the vibration begin almost immediately after the car was purchased or did it take a while? From what I read it was immediate (within 2000 miles). If so are the a significant number of cars that did not have it until after a certain period than they too all started having issues or is it a case of had it since birth or never had it at all?

Now let's look at MT's...
Vibration issue at relatively the same rpm's pitch etc but due rather to the increased sensitivity of the MT suspension/poor OEM tire choice/defective rim. If a MT car does not do it at the moment it most likely will not have an issue unless you trash a rim? Replacing the OEM tires doesn't always fix the problem but is pretty effective. Putting a proven set of rims and tires is ALWAYS effective. There also is a driveshaft heat shield issue that the dealer will replace.

Please correct me if anything seems out of wack. I am not 100% against a TL at this point but this doesn't help. Now if I am going out to look at a used TL if it's a MT I...

- take it out and anytime the motor is between 1400rpm-2500rpms listen/feel for a noticeable shake/rumble/vibration.

If it's an AT I...
- Take the car on the highway and let it drop into 5th gear at 1800 rpm and listen/feel for the same.

If I notice any of the previously mentioned issues I won't buy the car unless someone feels strongly that they could appear at any moment I might just go with the TSX. Thanks for the help.

So we still don't have an answer? I have this little vibration also but it doesn't seem to affect driving although I would like it solved if I could.

The driver axle change out didn't do squat but waste my money. And since I had them do it on the side, there was no recourse on my part.

I made an appointment for today with the dealership to give it another try and see if we can get this resolved. I've had enough of trying to cope with it. I have an 04 early build 6MT. I experience a shimmy mostly felt in 2nd gear at 1500 to 3000 rpms.

update:
went to dealership...they couldn't pinpoint anything...except maybe the axles didn't like the angle.
raised it back up to 1 finger gap...and guess what:?
NO MORE VIBRATIONS!

Thank goodness...lost a little drop...but it's still low...just not tucking...i'll trade that for the car driving nicely ANY DAY!

Yeah...price was definitely right! I called the service shop foreman yesterday to tell him and thank him for taking the time to talk to me.
So happy now! I've never been a slammed kinda guy...just like even drop and no wheel gap. 1 finger drives so much smoother and the vibrations being gone make me love this car again.

OK, I just took more then 1 hour to read this thread since I got that new vibration around 100km/h (60mph) on my 2004 6speed. Usually happens when I'm in third gear and accelerating faster to get on the highway.

I also have a drop but still have a finder clearance and stock rims.

I will have to take the car to the dealer next week, since I don't wanna pay for a new tranny if this is the case....

If you guys have a resolution, let me know please!

Thanks guys!

I can give you my update...after driving like this for almost a month...it pisses me off to think I can't lower it a little more AND when I have a heavy passenger...I can still feel the vibration slightly. So...if the axle is going bad...or will go bad, I'd rather tackle it while I have a hookup.

That said, I'm picking up my driver side axle today...and will hopefully have it installed soon. Then I'll lower a little more again and get an alignment again.

Hi,
I have a vibration on the steering column, floorboard. The vibration is between 50-70mph. After 70mph the car runs smooth. I balanced and rotated the tires=no help. Even if I down shift to 4th gear the vibration is still there between 50-70mph. I have a 04 Acura TL 5AT.
Need help thanks

I have had this same issue myself, and my dealer fixed it for good. I have an '04, 5AT, purchased pre-owned from Open Road in NJ. I noticed this issue and raised it to the attention of the Service Manager. After hopeless attempts at swapping wheels/tires, installing the dampener from the TSB as recommended by Acura, I found what solved my problem was the adjustment of the engine on the motor mounts. They also cut my rotors, which helped the slight pedal pulsation, however I feel the issue was mainly addressed by the dampener being installed along with the tech's multiple attempts at adjusting the motor mounts. How he did it exactly I don't know, but after the hours sitting int he service area all of those times waiting for my car, I was pleasantly surprised when this car came out driving better than the '06's. And we test drove several of the other pre-owned on the lot to prove how well mine drove. This was when I had roughly 58k on the car, in 07. I'm now at 85k, and still nothing is present. Just a little fyi for those that are running into these hopeless attempts at fixing this issue.

Thanks giggiTL, mine is currently into the dealer and they found out it was a deffective cardan.

They're supposed to call me after the test drive to let me know if this solved the issue, I'll keep you guys updated...

FYI: my vibration was on acceleration and much noticeable around 80-100km/h (50-60mph) and stopped after 100km/h even if still accelerating.

^^We have a lot of FREKIN POT HOLES here in the BIG Montreal Area and I'm lower more then 1'5inch front and back. This most increase the weight and my car has 185000kms, so it's seems like Honda normal wear to me.

I just picked up my car today cause the part is BackOrder, they will call me when the part will be in and then I let you guys know if this fixed the issue.

I'm pretty sure this is what causing the issue since I've noticed a strange noise from my wheel when I turn my wheels in the morning...and it comes from the same wheel my cardan needs to be changed...

I'll let you guys know when the part will be changed...

How much does it cost you at Acura dealership to diagnostise your car?

Here in South Florida it was free for the diagnosis. I don't know why. I would think they would charge for it.

With the passenger axle changed...I'm good to go...lowered the car back to what I liked it at originally (TEIN specs) and I'm golden. The vibration is only in my head now because I got used to it so I expect it and every rock in the road makes me think it might still be there...but alas, it is not. It's gone. I think the halfshaft connection to the passenger axle may be the weak link here...I'm not 100% sure though. Motor mount adjustments may be where it's at!

FINALLY!!!

The part was Back Order when I went to my Honda dealer. They received it on Friday last week, got it installed yesterday and the CAR FEELS LIKE NEW. I guess I bought the car 2 years ago and the driver side cardan (axle?) was already damaged some how.

Now it feels like I just bought the car and with my Selex Racing Suspension, it's crazier then ever.... less then 300$CDN fix...totally WORTH IT!!!

FYI : I have an 04 6sp with 185k km (~115k in miles) so it's a pretty normal issue for a honda @ that millage

My car does not vibrate, but in 5th gear right at 50mph when it changes over to 5th, the rpms go up and down (back and forth) between 1400rpms-1800rpms which causes some drone. I have an 05TL 5AT. It currently has 76,000 miles, and it has always happened since I bought it with 19,000 miles.

ditto...mine has gotten worse over the past 6months and I think it's a combination of two or more of the following...motor mounts, tranny mounts, dampner, axles, etc.

Funny thing is occassionally now I feel it...but for the most part it's totally gone with the replacement of the passenger half shaft. Maybe the CV had started to go or didn't like being at normal height for 5 years and then suddenly lowered. I don't know. but It's basically gone. Car is a dream to drive now.

Where you were having the issue with the vibrations, was it worst when it/the car was cold? And how did you know it was the pass side half shaft?

Ok guys I've been reading this post because I have the same problem. So I finally took the tl to the shop and had the driver side axle replaced. At first no vibration but around 60-70 it shakes, now I'm going back to the shop and replace the passanger side axle.
Keep in mind I did drive the car 10k miles w/ vibration lol prior to the fix.

I've been told that when you replace one, the other goes bad. Im not sure how that works. Let us know how it works out for you.

Will be doing this soon myself
