Serpentine belt is conventional wording, however it can also be called a drive belt, or a compressor belt at Acura.
DAYCO Part # 6PVK2135
GOODYEAR Part # 4060840
DAYCO Part # 5060840
GATES Part # K060840
ACDELCO Part # 6K840

I believe this is the Acura number 38920-RCA-A03 BELT, COMPRESSOR (MITSUBOSHI) 04 - 08 TL $35.67 $26.75

Swapped mine out with no problems. Went with an online Acura parts dealer. Just draw a pix of the routing before removing old belt. Start the new belt at the bottom of the engine and work your way up....

did you change the timing belt yet? acura recommends doing the timing belt at 105k miles. If you did this service at the dealer, they usually change the drive belt/serpentine belt as well. They did for me

Thank you Libert69
I noticed that the dealer replaced the drive belt when I changed timing belt at 105k
so I don't have to replace it for a while

Thumbs up

Maybe a bit late, but perhaps for reference for anyone that reads this in the future...

I bought a timing/drive belt replacement kit that got here today and I have the invoice sitting on my desk from the Acura dealership.

For the dealers, it is called a Compression Belt, and the part number is 38920RCAA03. Direct cost, without dealer inflation, is $25.00. That's how much they charged me because of their promotion.

Drive Belt

I own a 2006 TL and recently took it the dealership to replace a power steering O ring covered under warranty--this is the 2nd time. It was originally replaced due to a recall in 2008, so apparently it was not fixed correctly the first time. However, once there the dealership then tells me that my drive belt and tensioner needs to be replaced as well as it has alot of wear and that of course is not covered under warranty and will be about $400 to replace. My car has just over 50,000 miles on it and I am starting to smell a rat. It makes me very leary--lets say I agree to let them replace the drive belt but does mean in another 4 years it will have to be replaced again? I love my car but now am thinking of trading for a BMWxi...any comments, advice etc would be greatly appreciated...

There was a settlement if I remember correctly that effectively extends your warranty to 52k due to an odometer issue where it would accrue miles too quickly. You may want to look into it.

Also, you may want to try to deal with the service manager directly, another dealer, or Acura corp.

Good luck.

As you can see from above posts, the drive belt (serpentine belt) is actually only $25/$30, and add a tensioner @ $50, and replacement isn't difficult. This price is at an auto store, or Acura discount price. As the serpentine belt is responsible for the operation of all accessories that are belt driven, I would think it prudent to change it every 50,000 miles, regardless of car make, to avoid a breakdown, inexpensive insurance.

If the tensioner is bad, doubt it, but they do wear, either tension will be lost, or it is making a noise when operating, and that is an indication of a pulley bearing going south. Just the pulley can be changed, but most change out the entire tensioner as it is less labor intensive.

Take it elsewhere to have the serpentine belt changed and don't mention the tensioner and see what they come up with.

Understood and a point well made, however, in 6.5 years on this forum, I don't recall seeing a single incident of a serpentine belt breaking on a 3G (might have missed it, point it out if someone knows of a case where it did). Granted, the first 3-4 years of that 6.5 years most of the 2004 3Gs had yet to reach 50K. But now most 04s have at least 75K on them with no reports of breakage. (Yeah, I know, AZ is a small sample of 3G owners). I've got about 85K on my 04 and the belt still looks fine. Don't plan on changing it until 105K (assuming visual checks/tension remain good). Will that be a mistake? Don't know, we shall see.....

Just because you haven't heard of any, doesn't mean they don't break. Take a look over on the 2G Forum.
To each their own, but have done many replacements on a serpentine belt that has broken, and I don't understand why anyone would want to wait until it breaks and leaves you stranded, let alone when it does break, no power steering. To spend $25 every 50k is well worth the money iimho.
Also you must check the tensioner position to be certain it is still within the specified limits, if not, the belt must be replaced regarless of condition.

Let us know how it goes.

To each their own,.....
Only found one post of a busted serpentine belt on the 2G forum (2000 2G that busted in Jan 2010). Doesn't mean there aren't more, just didn't find any. There are a few threads about squealing belts...

Yes, to each their own....

First thing I'd do: Get a second opinion from an ASE-certified mechanic. Smells fishy (err "ratty").

Also as mentioned earlier, ask around (or google question) to see if your car is included in the odometer additional mileage warranty deal.

just swapped my OEM 55k mile squealing serpentine belt with a new Gates belt.

pretty straight forward. remove black plastic piece above the pullies (just pulls off). 14mm ratchet or wrench to yank back the tensioner pulley. pull out the old belt and then fight the new one on.
