Probably some bent valves.
I'm aware of that, I was just stating that the reason redlines and rev limiters were put on vehicles is because the motor, and/or other components, weren't designed to go past that. I agree that valves are probably the least damaged in this case, and OP...you are, for lack of a better word, screwed.

nope, not the record.. it was a good first post though, imo.. lol.

The record for ban is held by several past members.. my favorite was a guy who posted a funny vtec gif in the jpipe discussion thread. I believe his name was jpipeman. Epically funny since the discussion was very heated and serious before he posted.. banned on his first & only post btw.

If it helps u sleep at night go for it... Otherwise i thought forums were for helping people..

I came here because i was debating fixing the car through someone i know for cheaper, fixing it and getting rid of it, or doing the right thing and going to the dealer to fix it.

In this case, i'm just going to go through the dealer.. I know it was 100% my fault so i willing to take the responsibility..

You should know better by now. I expect stupid shit like what you did from 16 - 18 year olds.

Go ahead and beat the shit out of it, we don't really care. But don't ruin someone else's life and the lives of everyone that knows them while you're doing that. What the fuck are you gonna tell my 7 year old daughter when she is devastated over the fact that I'm not coming home any more. Are you gonna raise her or wipe her tears at my funeral? Huh? Fuck you.

You came here for support? Support of what? You want us to ease your worries or concerns about how much this is gonna cost you? Who's gonna pay for the college education now? Think you moron.

We all like power and cars - that's why were here numbnuts. There are places you can go where you can safely do whatever you want.
A public road against some stranger while you've been drinking is NOT the place to do that.

I hope some of the comments in here have done more than piss you off. I hope they've given you a wake-up call. I hope that thinking about what you could have done to someones family sends chills down your back. I hope you remember this every single fucking time you get in a car from now until you're no longer walking this planet.

My kids and my family mean the world to me. I can't even fathom what my kids lives would be like if I were taken out by someone like you. Grow the fuck up, okay?

The exhaust valves are THE damaged parts here.

Over-rev=bent exhaust valves.

OP, as I mentioned before. Make sure all 12 are replaced.

not just the exhaust valves but whole valve job.. we're talking new clips / retainers, springs, etc..

If you don't get it right.. you'll end up doing it again but possibly with more incurred damage. Ever see a valve grenade because of some reused hardware after a valve replacement? it's not pretty.

Honestly.. i thought i heard enough of the flamming. I was NOT DRUNK.. I said i had a few drink because i was at the bar and i drove close to an hour away after the bar. While i was about 15 min away from my destination this happened.

Ive never hit one car in my whole life? Why assume that im so wreckless and a drunk. I already stated that im an adrenaline junkie which i know i am but thats it. Thanks for your kind words budd... have a better day

Hey, if you have a trusted mechanic.....why not go through them to get the job done right and be a little bit cheaper on you!

dude if i were the OP i would have flamed your punk ass !!!

before posting, you should try to answer these questions in your head:
1> what are you trying to prove here ?
2> will your post help the thread at all ?
3> did you even read the thread ?

he never said he is trying to hide anything from the dealer....and earlier in the thread some one said

.....and don't even think about trying to lie about it to the dealer or repair shop: the over rev is fully logged in the car's computer. They will know.
so whats with you putting a full dealers list up ??? he messed up cool....we all do...shit happens.....many get lucky with small time repair....some get stuck with big repairs....

he is just wondering if he can save some $$$ while learning his lesson.....

you should be glad am not the mod....would have pressed the button on ur ass !!!

This is exactly what I was inferring.

Basically, if you do as Majofo says, you're replacing the whole top-end of your block.

Check out this thread, and check post #91 for a break-down of the actual cost:

If me calling this guy an idiot for what he did and then asking us to help him out with the result gets me banned then I'm fine with that.

I just traded in my 2005 Infiniti G35 coupe 6MT for a 2006 Infiniti FX35 and GAVE it to my fiance BECAUSE there seem to be more and more idiots like this guy out there that don't know the difference between a track and a public road and I wanted her to be in something big and safe.

Now I'm driving her 2004 TL because at least I've had a lot more driving experience and I came to this forum to get help with some technical issues its been having.

I've been a member of VWVortex.com and G35driver.com and in both of those boards the moderators would have no tolerance at all for threads or people like this that not only bragged about hooning around in their cars but asked for members advice on how to correct the outcome.

I meant they are the least of the damages, as in could also need new pistons or heads due to contact. Could be more than just valves, but valve damage is almost certain.

for those that dont know, CT speed limit is like 65 so 70 aint $hit. Jersey turnpike is 65 and if your going 85, your holding up traffic so dont flame the OP without knowing. I have done 90 passing the state trooper without him even looking twice since it was traffic speed adn everyone is just cruising not passing cars or driving reckless.

You'll fit in here just fine. Welcome to Azine.. There's a wealth of knowledge here, but before you ask try searching, if nothing pops up, search google and add acurazine to the search.. if still nothing.. ask away. There are a lot of knowledgable members here.

Uh why are you starting shit when you just joined the forum?

You don't have to pay the $4-5k to get his car fixed, so why do you care so much?

Do I support the actions of the OP? Eh not really. He was going a little fast after a few drinks, but nothing that everybody has done or will do eventually. Good luck getting your TL back to normal man

Some of you are pretty funny. Some dudes are trying to be a local town hero, and another dude suddenly thinks he is dead and his family will be left with no father cause a drunk driver took him out.

If you don't have anything mature to contribute, or can express a legitimate point in a mature manner, you are not any more mature than a 17 year old in a corvette doing 120mph after the prom.

As for the actual damage, like others have said you need new valves and a head job. Hopefully it won't cost too much.

This is pretty much my point.. I'm a single 23 year old with a good job. Maybe im not the nicest person in the world but i am going to enjoy my life to the max. Shit happens.. I'm willing to take responsibility..

Sorry to the mods for causing all this controvesy in this thread.. I do however think it could possibly be helpful in the future like someone else posted in this thread..

Wow...flame city up in here! Some of you guys are ridiculous with it. Clearly he knows he messed up so why burn the wound even more?? Put yourselves in his shoes douche bags! Shit does happen and yea he f'ed up but offer a solution or advise on how to cut down costs. Some of you are more pissed off than the OP is. Everything happens for a reason. I'm off my box now...again, OP the dealer WON'T cover this and you will pay serious loot for some work a good trusted mechanic can do at half the price if not more but the choice is yours! g' luck!

Good for you man. In no way was I insulting you in my first post and I hope you didn't take it that way. Granted I don't plan on having any drinks and then driving, but I'm sure it will happen eventually.

I know I went astray in my original post as well, but hopefully this thread takes a turn to more advice on getting your car fixed and back up and running properly than personal attacks on you and your personal decision making

Well, in the interest of accuracy, the OP is trying to scam the dealership into repairing his engine under warranty when he knows he broke his car.

And the OP has yet to admit that driving after "having a few drinks" at a bar is stupid.

And the OP has yet to admit that street racing is stupid (and in fact insists that he will keep street racing because he has "a good job," and "shit happens.") He does not, btw, explain why he does not take some of that money from his "good job" and put it toward track days like those of us who are responsible "adrenaline junkies."

After "only a few drinks" the vast majority of people are legally drunk. Legally drunk "adrenaline junkies" belong in a frat house, not on the roads.

As far as I'm concerned, if you come into a car enthusiast's forum and admit that you've been doing stupid shit that will not only endanger anyone unlucky enough to be sharing the road with you, but will further harm the opinion others have of car enthusiasts, you deserve what you get.

I dont have intentions in scamming the dealership but since i paid so much money for an extending warranty i wouldnt mind if the costs went down.

As for admitting that the drinking part was stupid, anyone can think differently. Having 3 drinks in a 3 hour span is not drunk and i feel 100% fine. Why would i admit to that being reckless when that STILL has nothing to do with my problem. It was my carelessness of downshifting obviously..

I already said this before but ive NEVER gotten into a car accident. Ive been driving for over 7 years yet everyones talking about how dangerous i am. This year alone ive driven over 7k miles(i gotta beater) for work.

I know what i did was wrong and my fault butttt i came here to get help and opinions which i got from 50% of these posts... I hope this cleared up some of the nonsense........

Uh, in the interest of accuracy, how did you come up with this?

And don't say it was this statement of his, because you'd be wrong:

"..... Come to find out my car is still under warranty. Im dropping it off at the dealer this week so they can take a look. I dont mind paying for some of it but if were 4gs or more i wont be a happy camper!!"

His statement is correct. His car is still under warranty. Whether or not the warranty in effect at this time covers this situation has been answered for him by me and a few others (it won't). No where did he state that he intended to lie to the dealer.

OP- your not going to get much sympathy on AZ for your problem if you rationalize your bad decision in this matter. I see situations like yours (driver having a couple of drinks and then get into an accident where someone gets hurt and in some occasions get killed) turn ugly on a weekly/monthly basis in my line of work. Sometimes, it's the driver's own passenger that gets hurt or killed. Others its the poor sap leaving behind a wife and small children. Either way it's not uncommon for individuals in these situations going to prison for a very long time. You could have been one of these individuals. That's the point that your not getting.

Many folks have been affected by drivers who have a few drinks, race on the streets and then get into accidents hurting/killing others. I'm sure that is why there is so much emotion in this thread. When you rationalize your decision, your just not going to garner as much support for your problem as you would like.

EDIT- I know you say you take 100% responsibility for what happened with your car but I think the problem here (and probably why not alot of people are willing to advise you accordingly) is that your missing the other aspect of your story- your nonchalant attitude about having a few drinks and street racing.

Why is he getting slammed on the "having a few drinks" part? The law allows for a certain tolerance. He never said he was drunk. Lots of stupid in here.

Agreed! I often go and have 1 drink/hr for 3 hrs and then speed off from 90 MPH because someone was messin' with me (through no fault of my own of course) That said, I had my fun too when I was 23. Problem was I had a 4-banger Pontiac J2000, not a nice Acura TL. Just pay the $4000 for the valve job and thank you for stimulating the economy.

Why would he admit to it at all unless it was a factor in the over-rev?

Because the warranty is meant to cover manufacturer defects only. It's not meant to cover "I was stupid and broke my car" situations, and trying to use it to even get part of a repair cost covered is scamming the dealership.
