For the 3rd gen. TL on the opposite side of where the sunglass holder goes there are two "clip areas", what is that for?

I believe you're referring to the slots for the coin holder. If you lift the padded center console you'll see two identical slots toward the front of the upper section. So, coin holders can go either in the center console or in the door pockets.

 

Ohh I see, thanks cintimmel. I've been wondering what that was for since I got the car in Sept. 08

 

Just FYI, the coin holders are available pretty cheap ($5-6) and hold quarters, nickels and dimes. You can have a dealer order them or purchase them directly from a supplier online.
