the door lock behind the driver seat sometime lock and sometime doesnt when i press the lock button on the key fob. is this due to the lock actuator going bad? can it be something else? just trying to confirm on the problem before i go and order a new actuator.

Try changing the fob battery first.

 

how well does it work when pressing the lock and unlock button in the drivers door?

 

it seems like your door lock is working fine but friction on the door lock mechanism itself is preventing it from working properly. try lubricating the door lock mechanism with a silicone spray lubricant. i believe the door panel has to to be removed to get access to it.
