..has anyone else lost one of these? I was going to lunch today with some friends and when we got to the car, they noticed that the passenger rear handle was missing the little cover. I have had the car for over 4 years and this is the first time this has happened. Also, the parts guy said that it is common.

Since I have to buy one, I figured I would pick up a second one and replace the driver door piece with one without the keyhole.

Just curious. I don't remember ever hearing this as a problem on the forum nor could I find a related thread.

 

If you car is out of warranty ask them to goodwill it for you:

They should just give you one out of good will. It's a common documented problem. There is even a Acura TSB on this exact issue, I found it on this site. My car was still under warranty when mine fell off. But still if it happened again, I would be politely assertive they replace for free.

 

It is out of warranty and the dealer wants 150 to replace the base and the cap! What a joke, I will do it myself. Thank you for the link ggesq.

 

Tell him the warranty repair is 0.4 hours and that's no more than $40. The part is only ~$12.

I had the exact same issue. What you have to do is go to the dealership, find a similar color/year TL and get the part you need. All you have to do is slide an exact-o-knife in between the cap and handle and pop it off. It will easily snap back into place on your old base.

Yea happened to me to. I just don't give a damn anymore. This car has so many design flaws that I'm sick and tired of fixing them all.

I hate to bring this problem back up again, I just recently found out there is a TSB related to this issue. 3 of the caps fell off my vehicle, and am currently out of warranty. I previously advised my dealer of this a few service visits prior, but was told that I would have to be charged for the repair ~94 dollars for parts and labor.

Now knowing there is a TSB, and aware I am out of warranty, do I have some sort of leverage to make a deal or discount for the repair and service? Any suggestions?

 

I think it depends on the dealer. They are all like different pimps. I brought printed TSB's to them that my car had and they did nothing because they said they could not replicate the flaw.

Some dealer are eager to fix some are not.

 

You don't need to replace the base .. like said above the dealer is a dick or the service manager doesn't know sh*t from apple butter and worked at a Chev dealer before his current job.

 

I had this same problem after going through a car wash. My dealer was precious to me and cost me $13.09 including the base and cap. They claim "weather" does this to the clip on the cap, going from hot to cold makes the clip weak.

and i didnt know about acurazine or the tsb....and the dealer charged me $35 to replace it....well it has been on there since :touchwood:

i want to do the shaved door lock, but if my battery ever drops dead, there is no way i can enter my car !!!!

Do a search .. there was a recent thread covering this .. You can unlock it if the battery is dead.
