Doesn't start immediately

I just bought a 2005 TL, it has 95k miles so I will do the 105k service soon.

The only issue I have noticed thus far is the car "struggles" to start, I have to hold the key a little longer than normal and the car kinda chokes and than starts.
Just wanted to see if this was an additional problem I should have looked at or it could be something related to scheduled maintenance, spark plugs maybe?

May be quite simple or could be a more complex issue...have you checked your battery?

Hopefully it is not a big issue, now that I am thinking of it, I test drove 2 TLs and both of them I failed to start on the first try. So I figured it could be a common problem

Try stepping on the gas pedal a little & see if it fires off more quickly, mine does. Try it several times over the next few days.

So does this mean that I shouldn't be worried if my car takes 3-4 seconds to start?

You shouldn't be to concerned. The problem is when it's cranking for 4-5 seconds continuously and not starting.

I kind have noticed this too with my TL, seems to happen when it's starting when cold. When I crank it for 1-2 seconds it sort of stumbles when it catches and starts. After warming up it's more or less OK if i need to restart.

It's at the point where i noticed it..since my mother's 01 odyssey starts right up I'm thinking why cant my TL do the same..essentially the same engine.

havent had it fail to start though so I guess it's ok...

The car sometimes does this to help reduce emmisions on startup. However if it's a continual problem, turn on the car to position 2 (the fuel gauge reads a level) and then turn on the car. The fuel pump primes itself when you do this. If it starts up perfectly after doing that you should consider adding a fuel cleaner to clean up some of the crud in the tank and fuel lines and injectors.

yea pausing to prime the pump first doesnt make a difference. That was a habit i brought over from my old integra.

Guess i'll live with it. It's not a problem, just something quirky I guess. I definitely dont have issues starting the car at least or have to crank for a few seconds.

You might want to have your battery checked out and see how many CCA (cold cranking amps) it gives out. I believe the TL needs somewhere around 550 to start.

I think there was a recall on 2005 TLs for fuel pump issues.
