DIY: Trunk Lid Latch Replacement TL/TSX/Most Honda
Problem:
Difficulty: Beginner
Step 1: Opening Trunk
Step 4: Remove metal latch lever from inside the trunk
- Latch wouldn't close until I slammed on it hard (latch hook stuck in closed position)
- Physically have to slide hook on latch to close trunk
- Trunk does not open at all but can hear the motor
- Replace trunk lid latch
- [If trunk latch stuck closed] Open the rear seat compartment and use a stick or pole to slide the emergency latch override
- Re-align trunk as needed
- New latch from Acura ~$68 Bucks - 74851-SDA-A22
- 10mm Socket, Extended
Difficulty: Beginner
Step 1: Opening Trunk
- If your latch is stuck closed, open your rear seat compartment and use a pole/flash light to slide the emergency latch open
- Clips for the liner are easily accessible, just pop off and slide off
- Remove connector
- Remove (2) 10 MM Bolts
- Remove metal latch wire - Just lift the latch mechanism to give slack and bend the wire and ball out of its holding
Step 4: Remove metal latch lever from inside the trunk
- This piece goes inside the trunk skeleton and you just need to just wiggle it out carefully
- Slide the metal hinge back into the trunk
- Bolt the (2) 10mm at 7lb torque
- Plug in connector
- Reinstall the metal latch wire
- Replace all trunk-lining
- Have a beer knowing you don't have to crawl into your rear seat every time to open your trunk.
- If your latch was destroyed like mine(photo below), investigate if your trunk is out of alignment)
