Dealer wax/oil change job gone wrong.

So I took my car in to the dealer for an oil change and a wax. I was told it would take 1/2 a day and to pick it up later.

Later, I went to pick it up and there is some strange hood stain, a light discoloration, almost looks like something dripped on it... They tried buffing it out, but didn't work.

I talked to the supervisor and he had no clue what that was and said he'll talk to a body shop and get back to me later. Not long ago he called back and said that his body specialist (who's been in business for over 20 years; they go through another company for body work as they do not have one on-site) said that the discoloration had to be there for a long time and It's not new. They denied that it's from them and told me I can pick up my car.

Unbelievable. I called back but I couldn't get a hold of the supervisor to ask him what body specialyst did he actually speak with. But by the looks of this, I doubt I'm going to get anywhere with the dealer.

What options do I have and what do you guys think that is? Dealer had no clue what it is... It's visible only when you look at the hood from an angle.

I also reported this to Acura Client Services, but they said they don't actually do anything, they use the data internally.

Please help.... I dont know what else i can do.

looks to me that something corrosive in nature spilled on the hood and went through the clearcoat.

Maybe they feel asleep and the buffer went through. I would take it to a body shop of your choice and see what they have to say.

That doesn't look like a spill because it would splash or drip. It looks like someone put a wet rag with brake fluid or something on the hood.

If that's the case, is there any chance that some bonehead could have done this at a earlier time and it was now noticeable on a now very clean car?

i suppose it would be possible that someone might've done something overnight... I haven't washed it in like 3 days, but i do go around it every morning to check for scratches... I'm a little obsessed with my car

That almost looks like heat damage (i.e. a direct flame?)...is that possible?

It does look like a rag was laid on the hood and some of whatever was in the rag dripped onto the fender. I sure hope it doesn't need painting to correct. Brake fluid would take more than the clear coat off, unless the rag was removed right away. Brake fluid will take you down to bare metal.

Thats what I am thinking too seeing you got it waxed .. did they by chance buff out the hoos or the rest of the car .. That looks to me like they used a rotary and burned through the clear .... Take a cleaner wax and rub that spot to see if you get color on the cloth.

For what its worth any time I take my car in for anything I take the service manager for a walk around and show him every flaw in the car and remind him I want it back that way ... saves this kind of sh*t from happening.

I'm really confused by the tiny "splotches" that are also discolored adjacent to the main damage. Maybe something spilled/splashed that they tried to wipe off?

In any event, nothing short of a repaint is going to fix that. I would raise hell with the dealer at this point.

I know it's water over the dam, but this is just one more reason NOT to take your car to a dealer's shop for any sort of work or service if you can avoid it.
