Dealer has no idea...

Ok so heres the deal. I took my car to a transmission place to get my rebuild of my tranny. Month later after the mechanic had my car at his shop he was having trouble keeping the car running. So he could not figure out why the car isnt staying running. So he decided that the car should go to the dealer to figure out why the vehicle is not staying running.

So the car gets towed to the dealer. What a nightmare that was espcially since my car is dropped to the ground ..anyway...

So once the car is at the dealer the dealer calls me and says the car needs a new computer and a new fuel pump. They could not tell me the cause of this they just put the new parts in.

So once they isntalled the new parts the car goes back to the mechanic for final transmission check. I get the car back pay the guy $2200 for the rebuild. The mechanic ended having to pay for the new computer and new fuel pump. I felt the mechanic was responsible for the computer and fuel pump because all this was working fine before i brought the mechanic my car.

NOW... i drive away and realize my signals arent working. But when i hit my stock alarm the passenger side signals work but not the drivers side. Now the signals do not work when i hit the signal switch.

So i took it back to the dealer and they have now had my car for two days trying to figure out what the issue is. They tell me they are not responsible for what is happening and do not want to put any more time into looking into the signal issue. They want to stop work on the car until they get someone to pay for looking at the work they did.

I feel like im not resposible for paying because im not the one who screwed my car up. So i was telling them to call the mechanic and have the mechanic have to pay for it. I mean my signals were working fine before i brought it to them.

Anyhow does anyone know what the issue could be?? PLease dont comment on my story just comment if you think you know what could be the issue. I need you azine guys to help me out since the "dealership has no idea"

Wow, dumb and dumber working on your car. I don't have any suggestions since the dealer has already been through it.

Good Luck!

Most likely its a ground that was not reattached. You can visually check for wires not hooked up that would go to the body or trans.

...or a cut/damaged wire in a harness. This could be like finding a needle in a haystack, but get a voltmeter and a wiring diagram and start to check stuff.

Agreed. I've seen and I've personally smashed wires between the engine and trans. It's easy to do.

im seriously questioning the intelligence of the techs if this is the issue a pinched wire...really. I mean how long could it possibly take to find this needle inna haystack. And they have the nerve to charge $120 an hour.

Nearly all of the "tech" at the dealers are just code readers and part swappers. If they have any intelligence and problem solving ability, then they are usually quickly gone to make more money in an indie shop, or working for themselves.

They are usually slow too. I am a DIY guy who has some moderate experience working on my own cars and I never take what they charge as "book time."

I am especially cynical towards dealership "techs," so forgive me. I am sure that not all others share my sentiments.

It goes along with my idea that if it doesn't throw a code they are lost. I hate to say this but you might be better off buying a service manual. With a manual and volt meter and no automotive experience you can test the circuit and have it figured out in an hour or two. I would not pay them a penny if they don't find the problem, that was how it worked when I was a mechanic.

Unhappy

Think about it, you have a switch, blinker module, wiring, possibly a relay, a fuse, power source, ground, and bulb. Start at one end of the circuit using the manual and test for voltage along the way. As long as you have a manual showing where various components are located and which wires are which, its very simple even without experience.

If i was even halfway mechanically inclined i would try this out but ..... i'd most likely end up frying the whole car then have to drive it into a river. But i did go today and pick up my car from the dealer. The guy tells me he can discount the hourly labor if you change your mind. Lol he quotes me $100 an hour lol.

So my car will sit in my driveway till i can find someone trustworthy to fix it. IHC im gonna fly you in to fix it. lol

I mean technically i can still drive ....hand signals
and heres one for the stealership :tonguefaw
