Dashboard Click

We have an 04 TL AT with 55000 miles. All of a sudden it started this click noise when you start from a complete stop. It seems to be coming from the area around the radio. When I start from a stop, I hear this click, almost like a big clock ticking. one click. Then when I stop I also hear one click, not as loud as the starting click. This happens every time I start to move or stop.

Anyone have a clue? The car is out of warranty, so I guess it's my problem.

Thanks,

Bob

I have a clicking/popping noise when I accelerate from a stand still. I had thge dealership look at it the replaced something called a tire rod end. It was short lived, not it sounds like noise is coming from the front and rear. After I have driven the car for a good 15 minutes the noise stops. It seems to be temporary, but when I park my car for more than 30 minutes and drive it again it starts over.

I got over it.

The noise I'm hearing is coming from the dash area.

hmmm.... do you have anything rolling around in one of the cubby holes or glove box that may have slightly shifted? could also be your climate control making the noise. If I could hear it in the car I could probably tell you what it is. But I'm on the "right" coast...

I've checked all the cubbys for something loose. Nothing. it almost sounds like a switch that goes on and off. Very strange. It does happen everytime the car starts to move or stops.

Climate control off, radio off, still happens. Everytime it's the exact same thing. On Monday, I'm going to bring it to the dealer. See if maybe they will good will the repair. Also have a right rear speaker buzz that is very annoying.

This car has been great to drive. But the rattles and the noises are about to drive me away.

Thanks for your help,

Bob

Found out today, the clicking is coming from under the shift lever plate. Not sure how to remove the plate (silver plastic cover) but, it sounds like it's right under the cover. The search continues.

the trim ring around the shifter comes right off, just stick your finger nails under it and pry it up...i retrimmed mine with some new felt tape and put it back on...i also put some around the the silver trim part that the trim ring butts up against toward the rear...that also helped my noise...

ive had that noise for as long as i can remember in my 04 tl. i found out it was the relay that allows you to shift to park/reverse from drive or vice versa when applying the brake pedal

like most problems with this car, the dealership told me it was "normal"
