Thumbs down Could not get out of reverse

So I was trying to get turned around, I drove forward, shifted in reverse then back into someone's driveway.

There was a car in the driveway so I backed up to it as close as possible so I would have enough room to make the turn. There was also a a slight incline on the driveway...as usual.

So I put the car in 1st and was about to pull out when the car abruptly jerked back and hit the car behind me, with the owner in full view....he wasn't impressed. Luckily I had backup soo close that the hit didnt cause ANY damage. I apologized and got back in my car.

So with with my foot on the brake I ran through the gears then put it in 1st again. As I'm letting off the clutch, the actually starts moving backwards. So I put it in neutral and it STILL keeps moving backwards. Keep in mind that I was on an incline facing down.

I actually had to have the guy move his car forward, incase she kept moving back. I jump in my car again, put it in neutral and she crept back a few inches, then stopped and started rolling forward....like what was suppose to happen.

I wonder what the hell went on with my tranny...

Other than a problem with the linkage that's pretty much impossible in a manual. Where in an auto, all gears are in constant mesh with one another (there's no shifting) you can get some weird things happening from bleed over from one hydraulic circuit to another, in an manual it's pretty much impossible.

I would check the linkage. So you're 100% positive this wasn't driver error? Did the shifter feel any different, mushy, hard to feel the detents? You had no movement with the clutch disengaged, right?

I'm 99percent sure it wasn\t me IHC. I actually had to put the car in neutral and quickly pull the handbrake up in order for me to step outside to make sure the car was facing downhill.

and

yes, no movement with the clutch disengaged. This hiccup has actually made me a bit nervous to haul it in 1st from R without first coming to a complete stop. If this happens again I'll have the linkages checked out.

Very interesting. I would like to know what you find if it does it again. It would make me nervous at every red light.
