COOLANT EXPLOSION All Over Engine Bay 2005 Acura Tl
I have a 2005 Acura Tl... Yesterday I decided to take my car on a long road trip to visit family... It was about an hour drive to get there.. it was quite hot and humid.. but the car was running fine...However when I merged off the highway and stopped at a restaurant I smelled some type of sweet smell(kind of like syrup).. I popped the hood and there was a bunch of antifreeze all overy my engine bay and plastic components (looked like a small explosion). I checked the coolant level and of course there was nothing in the resevoir... We had a recently bought a new plastic coolant reservoir cap(like $6 online) because the other one was broken. Good thing there was an autozone right across where we were at and purchased some coolant... my prediction was that I probably left the cap slightly open.. but I'm really not sure... I searched up some other threads and others say their temp gauge was in the hot section...but mine was constantly right in the middle... Can someone please explain to me what might of had happened... New member to the acura fam.. Please and thank you.

IMO it is worth it to just get the OE blue stuff from any Honda or Acura dealer. It costs more but you will be certain. That is assuming what was in your car before the mishap was the OE blue stuff. If it was some other color then who knows what's in there and if it were me I'd figure out your problem and then fully replace with the OE blue stuff from any Honda or Acura dealer. I'm not saying all fluids need to come from dealer but for antifreeze, power steering fluid and ATF it is very often suggested that you stick to the dealer stuff. Brake fluid, oil, manual gearbox oil... have at it with your favorite.
