coil on plug part 2...
the following post was made about 3 weeks ago..here it is with update
orig comments
05 tl 6MT - ok, car started running rough - 110k miles - orig plugs. found far right front cylinder coil was melted and was not operational - no spark - slightly over heated looking - smelled burnt. replaced coil $95, did not change plugs.. car ran ok for about 200 miles, started running rough again, pulled apart, same coil was completely melted, fell apart when removed and now is melted in the spark plug chamber - real mess, do not know how i will clean out, but what is causing coil to over heat and melt??? help
ok - I got some comments regarding changing the plugs etc - didn't think that was it but anyway - dealer said over the phone..."sounds like the PCM" - hummmm...over the phone diagnosis usually means they have seen this before, although they said this was the first.
so $2,000 later - they replaced the PCM due to "corrosion from condensation - moisture" and all six coils & plugs - problem did not result from plugs but from malfunctioning PCM. I expressed some dissatisfaction so PCM was covered under warranty...at over 110k miles and covered under warranty.. my guess is this is happening more often than we will hear...Very expensive...jus wanted to pass along.
