Clutch Slipping or something with the ECU???

Hi Acurazine. I have an issue where when I switch gears and i try putting gas, my rpm would jump a little and then come back down. It feels like it's slipping and now i think my clutch is toast. I'm also wondering since our cars actually blip the trottle when switching gears that it has something to do with the ecu. I should get this check out but wanted some explanation first from knowledgable people. Also I asked two differnt dealer for extimate and they are 1700 to 2100. I'm also not sure if i need a new fly wheel as the price for the second is including flywheel.

Thanks,

Won

the throttle blip should be for downshifting and the cars attempt to rev match with the gear speed
the trans has synchros on the gears so they should slide togther even if not matched speed
disclaimer- Im gen2 owner so best guess on my part for gen3

Yeah, there is no ECU-generated throttle blipping. It will hold engine speed for a moment on upshifts if you keep your clutch disengaged and wait for it.

If you clutch is slipping, it is a very simple matter to determine this. There are many ways, but an easy one is to find a hill, have the transmission in second gear (or third if the hill is mild), clutch out, then as you ascend the hill tip into the throttle a bit. If your engine increases RPM's faster that it should under these conditions, your clutch is slipping.

As I said there are a number of other ways to test this as well. It should be very obvious if it is slipping on you.

As someone mentioned, you could toast your flywheel. Other bad things could happen if friction material begins to shed. As for how long you have? Hard to tell. If it's slipping at the slightest throttle application (tends to happen more in the higher gears because of increased torque needed to move the car), you are already there where you need to get this taken care of.
