Clutch chatter fix?

Slight clutch chatter with slow/normal/quick engagement in 1st, 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd. No chatter in reverse or from 3rd-4th and above. No issues getting into gears since I have syncromesh friction modified, just a vibration when letting go of the clutch pedal. Every shift is different, the chatter isn’t too bad at it’s worst, but still noticeable at it’s weakest.

It was raining the other day and I thought it was a good idea to turn vsa off and floor it lol. I spun 1-4 gear before I caught traction at 30-40 mph (I don’t remember the mph exactly). I realized that probably wasn’t good for my clutch but everything was fine. Come the next start up, I have that slight chatter. Prior to this, every gear shift was consistently smooth.

Im at 187k miles, replaced clutch/flywheel at 160k with luk set. I might just deal with it until I get the stimulus money and blow it on an xlr8 clutch set

So I realized I might have been only going 20-30mph and a burning smell... it was raining so it wasn’t my tires, but the clutch haha. Is there a temporary fix to smooth out the chatter in the meantime?

This behavior is usually harder on the rest of the drive train than your clutch. This is usually where you are being harsh on the synchos, axles, and other components. The clutch and synchros depends on how fast and hard you are rowing through the gears. The axles really depend on how much wheel hop there was and how harsh it was when the tires finally bit.

Note that burning tires and burning clutch are two completely different smells. And yes, in the rain, you can still smoke your tires. Not nearly as easy, but it is possible. I "may" have done it before in a rental once upon a time.

Yeah, just checking it would be pretty expensive. I’ll most likely sit on it til it gets worse

I don’t know. I paid my girl’s uncle to do it at his shop with the parts I provided. So whatever came with the luk clutch kit and flyhweel from rockauto in June 2018. Rear main seal was replaced with oem

Luk throw out bearing is no good. The throwout bearing that came with my kit had a lot of resistance. And that isn't uncommon. I got a new OEM bearing.

Yeah it was pretty spontaneous, I don’t normally drive like a maniac. The research that I’ve gathered in an hour for “clutch chatter upon engagement” involved hot spots on clutch/flywheel or bad motor mounts as answers on multiple forums for many different cars. But yeah, the clutch only chatters right before I completely let go of the clutch

Paul, our star master mechanic here in Nawth Jerzy recommends the OEM throwout bearing with each clutch change as he's not a fan of those aftermarket bearings either. LUK is OK otherwise, and in his mind, LUK is the only clutch set to use. Beware, a lot of other brands like Exedy, are the LUK repackaged. Something more common in the industry than you have any idea.

Just thought I’d update. The chatter went away after a few days of normal driving and my clutch has been smooth and operating normally for over a month now
