I have a 06 TL base auto with 54k miles. When accelerating from a stop i hear a faint clicking sound from time to time. I went to a mechanic down the street from my house and he checked it out. He said that it was normal for newer cars and the clicking sound was and axle something going into place. He than demonstrated by holding the brake down at a stop and hitten the gas on both drive and reverse. When he did this it always made that clicking sound. Is this normal?

 

does it click if you do full lock turns at low speeds either in drive / reverse? if so, then definitely replace driveshafts. If it's more like a grinding on a full lock turn you may have a bad hub bearing. Definitely get it checked out.. doesn't sound good and definitely doesn't sound normal. If it's more like a clunk it could be your front / side motor mounts.. also check out your compliance bushings for cracks / failure.

 

when i make u turns at low speeds i only get a clicking sounds from the steering wheel. no clicking sounds from the wheel outside.

i noticed the faint clicking sound when driving off from a red light or stop sign. the mechanic recreated the same problem by pressing on the brake and holding it, then pressing the gas to make that clicking sound. said it was normal.
