Clicking Sound, Axle Issue?

i recently noticed a clicking or clunking sound when i cut the wheel all the way to the end to turn the car(from a stop and roll). im guessing something is wrong wit hthe axle. Since my warranty is expured, should i bring i tto a local shop and let them check it out? how much would a new axle cost for the TL?

what kind of effects does a messed up axle have on the driving/suspension, if any?

my guess is your cvs boot is cracked , the lubricants inside dried up, and your cvs joints need to be replaced.

Clicking Noises from start/stop 10mph roll

I too have this clicking problem when I start. stop or break, or turn at low speeds. Weird right? I thought it was the break system but then maybe the shocks. But an CVS boot is definitely possible. I'm calling ChevyChase Acura now to see if that's a possible fix.

I'll update as needed.

WHEN the protective boot gets torn- and one or more of them will at some point in life- all the grease for the BEARING inside goes out, and all the outdoor world road grit goes in and causes the bearing to sieze- that bad!
Requires replacement of CV-Axle shaft assembly
no you cant replace the boot- the damage is already done inside
Have a local shop do it- simple job with the right tools
Call NAPA auto parts- they have new ones for gen2, hopefully you guys too
Other places will have rebuilts-Its just nice to get new for same price when available

you can replace the boot alone..seen it done many times. is it healthy, prob not. and its very possible for a axle to go bad with the boot breaking. happened to me 3 times.

I sent it to ChevyChase to fix and the issue came out to be the binding on the left front control arm. Replaced bolts on it and now it's fine.

Good luck everyone.

Needle bearing in the transaxle. My 04 6 spd had this on the LF. Replaced the axle (myself) and the sound is gone. Axle was $200 just for the part.

Is there a TSB for this? I hate my dealer, they will do the cheapest thing possible to fix it (new boot, new grease... ) Its clicking... Thus there is something out of tolerance; but they are going to patch the problem, not fix it.

Thanks.

It's probably the axle shaft CV joint. Get it looked at or change it yourself if you wish. It's probably the right side.

I think I have the same problem as everyone else here, a bad axle....can anyone please post a DIY when they replace their axle? Preferrably the driver's side axle. Oh, if anyone has a DIY on replace front wheel bearings as well. Thank you.

Topckret... Buy a service manual. You will never regret it.

The stupid manuals at autozone dont count.. Get the factory service manual.

I know I should do a thread search but to save some time and trouble, do you know where to buy one at a good deal and how much they are? Thanks.
