Clicking down downshifting
Clicking down downshifting
Hello everyone!
I have an 07 auto TL with 65K and recently I have noticed a "clicking" sound when I downshift from 3rd to 2nd, and 2nd to 1st. I can't hear anything going from 4-3 but that could be due to the higher speeds and the wind noise. I also don't hear it on the up shifts but that could be due to the engine and exhaust noise (I removed the mid muffler and it's louder from 2K - 4K RPM now). The noise is a single "click" and it's not terribly loud, but loud enough that if I have the windows down and music off I can hear it. It doesn't happen 100% of the time. I would hazard it occurs about 50-60% of the time.
It's just recently been nice enough to have the windows down so I'm not sure if it is just manifesting itself, or if the sound has been present all winter.
The transmission itself seems to shift fine. It's not clunky on either up or down shifts and I don't sense any slippage. I did a 3x3 drain & fill with Redline D4 and Racing ATF about 3K miles ago, a few thousand miles after I purchased the car. The car had shifted fine before and after the drain and fill.
Any thoughts would be most appreciated. I'm wondering if perhaps it's a mount or bushing that is allowing something to shift and cause the click. Thanks for your input and thoughts!

Thanks! I ordered the switches today. I've been meaning to do them but this is a good reason stop procastinating and get it done
.
Any other thoughts on what could be causing the click? Thanks!

I discovered at least the passenger side motor mount is in need of replacement. I can see a crack in the plastic housing. I ended up purchasing all three motor mounts and will be replacing them this weekend. I'll check the upper transmission mount at the same time to see if it also needs to be replaced. Hopefully this eliminates my click!
