"Bar keepers friend" can be found at walmart or any grocery store...
its basically a stainless steel cleaner, hence the name.

Oh and if you take a little time to search or browse through the forums, you'll find that almost all your questions have been answered already.

I used just a normal wadding polish the stuff that comes in the silver can available pretty much anywhere. If your tips are pretty much stained black just to let you know its going to be a LOT of scrubbing to get it all off. Infact, your hands and fingers will hurt by the time your done. Ofcourse I did every part of the tip including the polished lip that folds over into the exhaust which was completely black as well. It can be done but will just take time and work. They look amazing when done though.

I used Bar Keepers Friend...the liquid. There's a liquid and a powder that you have to make into a liquid. So..um...just buy the liquid right out of the gate! BKF is great stuff though, by far the best stuff I've ever used.

Eagle One "Never Dull" and Mothers "Mag & Aluminum Polish" also work well.

Only the exterior and the rolled edge shine. The inside is painted black, but you can clean the build-up with soap and water.

I have used Blue Away for years.

I used it for the first time on my 1998 Integra Type R's JUN header. It completely removed ALL the oxidation on it, I mean all of it.

That's exactly what mine looked like and look like now after BKF. Takes quite a bit of elbow grease but it'll come out looking great! I used Nev'r Dull for everything before I found BKF and I think BKF takes the cake on this one.

Nope, I accidentaly left some residual brasso on my trim. I noticed the next day and wiped it off like wax.

even if they are painted black and if it comes off in the cleaning process its easy to spray them with high heat black paint, or the soot over time from the exhaust will make it black again

edit: pics

here a pic of before and after cleaning, however no chemical involved.
just plain tap water with car wash soap left over.

Probably not hard to unhook the mufflers from the 2 hangers holding it up for access to the tips for cleaning. Give it a whirl...

Came out awesome...I also cleaned the inside of my exhaust tips by accident but ended up liking how it looked.

...do what, Steven?! You just got back from a honeymoon, if your tip's not polished at this point, I'd demand an annulment!

i dont know how u guys do it ... or maybe my tips are beyong polishable, but i could not get the middle part in between the two outlets clean on either side, but i got everything else, looks kinda stupid, but i cannot get enough elbow grease on the middle area to get off all the black stuff ... im pretty sure these tips are welded so removing them to clean them is probably not an option ... anyone have any other solutions?

You can drop them down if you unhook the 2 rubber hangers...look up under the car and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Are you using BKeeper's friend finally?
Originally, I used goof off and a friggin wire brush.

Am I the only person that doesn't get charred exhaust tips?? I notice my car is the only one that has exhaust tips that stay pretty much clean (at least not black). I notice all bmws have some black around the tips. Is it cause my car's emissions are optimal??

im just using bar keepers friend and a rag ... should i go with something more aggressive than a rag? ... its doing a decent job but duznt look brand new ... i feel like im doing something wrong.

im using bar keepers liquid, should i have gone with the powder, i felt like they would be the same

I'm not sure...the powder allows me to dip one corner of the towel in water and pick up as much of the powder as I want to make it super abrasive.

Try neverdll...

This thread is a little back from the dead lol, I used just a regular metal polish... and for the tip of the tips (area just inside the tips) I used real fine steel wool, made them look brand new.
