Cleaned Throttle Body, Erratic Idle, P2279

Hello Guys,

Due to a high rpm misfire and flashing CEL, my dealer diagnosed my car with worn spark plugs and a dirty thorttle body. They of course charged an arm and a leg to do this so I decided to do both myself. Sparks were easy and uneventful. The throttle body cleaning while easy, resulted in a car worse than it originally was. Idle was too high and erratic, swinging 250 rpm when the a/c compressor turned on. I also got a P2279 code. I did the Idle Re-Learn and ECU reset as instructed by the service manual with no change. Any solutions?

Update: Idle is progressively returning back to normal by itself. ECU must be learning the new idle. I did reset the CEL and it has not come back. It appears it takes several drive cycles.

That's odd,I wonder if you disconnected something or tripped the TPS while cleaning the TB.

What they ^^ said...

Make sure you didn't leave anything disconnected and what did you use to clean it? Did you remove the TB at all?

I did not take it out. Removed the 2 nuts and 2 bolts and cleaned both sides using a rag a CRC TB Cleaner. I did move the throttle plate by hand, but nothing violent. Only thing i disconnected / reconnected was the MAP sensor.

So you tried this?....

P2279 Intake Air System Leak Acura

If you encounter this P2279 trouble code, especially after cleaning the throttle body, you must do an idle relearn procedure. Make sure the throttle plates are clean and the port to the MAP sensor is clean.
1. Then remove the negative battery cable for MORE than 10 minutes.
2. Start the engine with all electrical loads turned off. That means NO A/C, blower, radio, wipers, etc. Hold the RPM at 3,000 until the cooling fans come on.
3. Release the throttle and let the engine idle normally for 5 minutes. If the cooling fans come on during this time, ADD their running time to the 5 minutes.
4. Turn off ignition
