"Check Fuel Cap" message on Nav as well as MID
In the last couple of month my MID as well as the Nav screen displays an error message. It states To check the fuel cap and retighten it. The message will stay on for a couple of days then would go away. It has happened about 3 - 4 times in the last couple of months. I always tighten the gas cap until it clicks several times (6-7 clicks) after refueling. Does anyone know if there are any issues with the gas cap before I take it back to the dealer? I have an 07 TL type S.
Thanks,
h.

Yes yes and yes....I had the same on my 07 TL-S and its a very common problem for us. Take it to the dealer. It took 3 tries for me but they finally replaced some "fuel check valve" thing, something. Anyways the acura mechanic had to call higher up and seen this was a very common problem for the 07-08 Type S.

Yea had the same problem on my 07 type-s, went to the dealer and they replaced a sensor and i haven't had a problem since. The service manager said this is a very common problem with this year and model. I suggest you do the same.

Tried to access the link you provided for the TSB "http://www.in.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/SB/B09-056.pdf", came back with an error message saying "Link Deny"..."The link you requested was denied by Link Deny, Go back or home". Tried Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 and didn't work. Any ideas?

Have the same message on my 2009 TL Tech. In fact, it popped up on my first test drive the day I purchased the vehicle. I always tighten my fuel cap several clicks after refueling...so it may well be some sort of sensor. I have about 22,000 miles on my car, so warranty should cover it.

Advanced
However, they did say it was a 'known issue' and replaced the valve for free.

Short version:
Love this place. You guys greatly reduced the amount of grief I suffered with a '07 TL NAV/AT I bought from Capitol Chevrolet of San Jose, CA when the 'gas cap' warning light came on while driving the car home immediately after my purchase. While the sales department had no problem with fixing the vehicle, the service department hasn't shown much skill in diagnosing and repairing an intermittent problem. Without your pointers as to what the most likely problem is, I'd probably be screwed. Thanx a bunch.
Detailed version:
Love this place. I just bought an '07 TL NAV/AT to replace my demon-possessed '05 TL 6MT, but that's another story. No more than a mile into my journey home from the Chevy dealer from whom I purchased the car the check gas cap popped up on the NAV display. I pulled over, checked it and retightened it. That the message persisted wasn't a big worry because it can take a while to clear. On my way home I filled the tank and was pleased to have the message not reappear....Until the next day. I had to drive back to the dealer to pick up my other car so while I was there I notified the salesman who sold me the car and was told he'd talk to his manager and not to worry they'd fix the problem. Subsequently I was told to take the car to their service department to determine what needs to be done to correct the problem, and that they'd take care of it.
Unfortunately the group that owns the dealership doesn't also own an Acura or even a Honda dealership so of course they were completely clueless. The service writer calls me up late the next day to say they pressure-tested the tank and cleared the message and it didn't come back after restarting it a couple of times. They also said that the car wasn't showing any diagnostic codes, which I was surprised to hear and frankly suspicious about. It made/makes no sense to me that the on-board diagnostics would trip w/o also producing a DTC. As far as the service writer was concerned the car was 'fixed.' This set me off of course; evidently they had never experienced an intermittent problem as I had explained the intermittency of the issue, that I had checked the gas cap a couple of times, etc. I suggested that she get permission to send it to an Acura dealer as they evidently didn't have the experience to deal with the problem.
My next stop was Google which, not for the first time, led me to Acurazine. I got a copy of the TSB and faxed it to them hoping that would clear up the matter, especially as it was a simple fix. I must have been dreaming. I hadn't heard anything by 1pm the following day so I called to check the status. The service writer told me that she called some Acura dealer to verify the TSB I sent them (I guess to make sure I hadn't Photoshopped it), and that the Acura dealer was able to verify the TSB but that it wasn't a problem they ran across very often. Yeah, right. That's why there is a TSB that covers it. Then the service writer told me she'd have to discuss the situation with both the service and used sales managers and would get back to me. This happened the next day, day three, at 12:30pm. I was told they had ordered the part but wouldn't be able to complete the repair until Monday, and she asked what I wanted to do with the car. I told them to keep it as I had two other cars, including my demon-possessed '05 TL.
So now I wait, and I should hopefully have everything squared away by Monday. Fun, fun, fun. I must say that the sales department has been very good about this, especially for a car that they weren't making much off of.
Thanx for the great info guys. While it wasn't provided to me specifically, it was nice to see how so many people have helped those with this problem in the past on Acurazine. Nice community you have here.

The folks that are having a problem with "Tighten Fuel Cap" message - when refueling the car do you always re-fill the tank completely at gas stops? Do you try to "top it off" completely or stop when the gas station pump stops?
Just doing some fact-finding.....

I just had this fixed under warranty. They said it was a relay that needed to be replaced.
