Changing Trans fluid

One owner from 06-2015 (0-130,000km), and my Dad owned it from 2015-2 weeks ago (130-225,000km), and is now mine! As far as i know, I don't think the Trans fluid was changed, at least not in the last 7 years. Shifts are jerky at lower RPMs(upto like 3.5k rpm), especially 1-2,2-3, 3-4. Shifts OK at higher RPMs.

Included the fluid in the pictures, along with some colorful objects to set a reference, in case the pics are somewhat distorted. TBH i expected black burnt fluid, but seems fine so the first owner probably had it done at some point.

Recommended is the 3x3 change, but seems quite pricey for me at this point. Im thinking of maybe doing a 3qtx2 for a while and seeing how it goes. Do you realllly insist on a 3x3? If so, Ill do it.

What about fluids? Standard is the Honda/Acura ZF1-ATF. Seen some users use Redline Racing ATF as well (same price). The consensus used to be the Honda OEM fluid ONLY, but Im sure thats changed since the past 15 years or so. Pricing seems about $30-35/qt (but $21 if i get a pack of 12...anyone wanna share?) on Amazon. Located in GTA, Ontario, Canada. .

Fluid should be a bright pinkish red, it's certainly due to be changed.

3x3 is the best since you can't get all the fluid out with 1 or 2 changes.

Find a honda dealer and buy the same DW1 trans fluid from them, should be WAY cheaper than acura, about $9 USD/quart. If you buy a case, you can get all 12 quarts for around $110. Buy local and save on the shipping.

I just went to my local Honda dealer today, and they're up to $12 USD/quart on DW1. IIRC, they use to sell me a case for $90, but that was like two or three years ago.

One of, if not the best deal on ebay for a shipped case of Honda DW-1 ($9.04each):
New Genuine Honda Acura ATF DW-1 Automatic Transmission Fluid 12-Quarts | eBay

OP, if you are 'adventurous' and want to save even more use Aisin DW1, RA has it for $5.30 each before shipping.
I've been running it for over a year now in my glass rebuilt CL-S automatic with no issues so far.

Changing Trans fluid

Changing Trans fluid would be a good start but To solve the jerking I recommend changing your pressure switches aswell as a transmission filter change. 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches will solve your jerking/shuddering transmission. My Tl has over 300k and running smooth after fluid filter and pressure switch changes. Lots of good videos on youtube to walk you through the process.

They jacked the price up $4 since I posted the deal on 14Aug22.

I'd only use Honda DW-1 but your car, if you really trying to save $20 for aftermarket fluid that seems silly to me.
People mention 3x3, if you haven't done it in 60k miles you should do more. space out the changes after the first 3. Also recommend adding a trans cooler, especially if you do spirited driving. I've installed a temp gauge and before I added two coolers the fluid can get 270F+ on a hot day.
