Center Console gets really warm?

I dropped my phone in between the seats and console (most annoying thing ever) last week on my way to work and when i went to reach down and get it the sides of the center console were really really warm. I drive 40 miles one way to work. this is either recent or ive just never noticed before now. Has anyone else experienced this? I've searched already and the topic only comes up in the 2nd Gen forum. Their solution was to make sure the vents in the console to the back seat were open because when you run the heat the air has nowhere to go if the vents are blocked but mine have been open. and i turn off my heat after its been running for about the first 10-15 mins of my trip anyways.

underneath the silver trim pieces are Ducts.
a/c or heat travel through those ducts to provide air to the rear seats.

since, you're running heat, it'll be hot or warm to touch.
if running a/c it will be cold to touch

as long as you have the temp set to a heat setting, it will still blow from the vents and through that duct, even if off.
when I turn my heater off, my car still gets very warm and I have to set the air to a lower temp then turn off the air.

experiment with it.
try heat. try no heat. try ac, try no ac.
try blasting heat then set temp lower.
try any combination you can think of.

it wont be that hard to trouble shoot and "figure it out"

Same thing here, the center console, just besides the seats, gets really warm. I keep the rear vents closed unless I have passengers so I've always attributed the warmth to the blocked air passage.

I wonder if turning the climate control off also closes the heater control valve. Based on your observation, it probably does not. And while airflow slows down significantly, the heater core radiates the heat even when the climate control is off. (This makes sense, because if I turn my heater on, I want it hot NOW and don't want to wait several minutes for the warm coolant to flow through). I bet if you put the temp control on "Lo" before turning off your climate control, this wouldn't happen.

If you feel them when the A/C is on they get quite chilly for the same reason.

I understand completely, I don't function correctly until after 11am. Surprised they still let me work here.

At least you eventually function right. Sometimes I read some of the stuff I write on here and I'm like. The really sad thing is people at work will tell new people if they want to get ahold of me it's best to create an acurazine account vs email.

still in search of an answer

i have stock cats, that are missing outside heat shields, think this is enough to get my center consul and the area right under my nav system warm/hot?

rv6 j pipe and td exhaust aswell... all heat shield in place under the car. the shifter area, to the front of the car (under the nav) gets pretty warm, i dare say hot. it make me alittle uneasy. other options besides the heat shields on the cats?

Yup, I know what you are talking about. I can feel this same effect. But it happens only sometimes. Not necessarily due to hot weather or long trips. It's a feeling of radiating heat in the air that emanates from low down near the floor/under dash/console. And this is with the heat/HVAC OFF. Yet if you touch the interior surfaces; underdash, carpeted areas, the aluminum trim/rear AC ducts area, it is all cool to the touch. Weird.

you do know that the engine operates in excess of 500 degrees right?

its totally normal to feel heat near your feet through transmission tunnel which can radiate upwards.

and then on top of that, your nav/radio is electronic which also produces heat.

Lol. Put heat shields on your cats. This problem might go away and you'll have more horsepower.

Yep exactly right. And the reason why I never thought anything is really out of the ordinary. But this doesn't happen in all cars I've had. I guess some cars are better at routing/radiating heat than others.

if its uncomfortable heat; like even with the A/C on and you're still feeling heat; get out of the car, its on fire.

Yes I understand that internal combustion produce heat.. Thanks

It's not in the flooring, it's right where the shifter is, and I have been contemplating getting hfpcs but a bit thrown off as they don't have heatshields. I feel like this issue would be brought up more with those running a similar set up unless the thermal coating does a hell of a job.

To be honest it is an uncomfortable heat... And my car runs alot colder than my previous s did. I'd say maybe about 2/5 of the engine temp gauge.

Was hoping to see if anyone had a similar issue with a similar or diffrent set up.

Regards gentlemen, as trolls.
