Bought my 06 TL last year in Oct, just started noticing my CEL randomly coming on here and there but never always on. Called Acura dealership and they said my car need to have the valves aligned since it has 93k miles on it. Im thinking it's the spark plugs that are giving off the CEL, any thoughts??

Go to AutoZone, or the like, and they will read the code(s) with a code reader attached to the diagnostic port, no charge.
Post the resulting code number(s) and the members will respond.

 

Okay thanks for the advice guys, codes are as follows:
aa Catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1,

Probable cause:
aa1. - A/F ratio concern
aa2. - Air leak near HO2S (Heated oxygen Sensor) Bank 1
aa3. - Ignition system concern >> COULD THIS BE SPARK PLUGS MISFIRING??
aa4. - Faulty catalytic converter

 

...and I think the code is P0420?? OEM Number to cross, P0420

 

In the search, use P0420 and it will give you many replies.
Bank 1 which is exhaust system firewall side, and as you'll read, clear the code to see if it returns, and if so either downstream O2 sensor is kaput or most likely the cat has lost it's efficiency.

On the daughter's Maxima it was the cat, replaced with an aftermarket unit and now, about 2 years later, P0430 popped up, indicating the other cat, bank 2, is a goner.

 

You're most likely going to need a cat and it's not cheap. You're out of the 8 year/80k warranty too.

You can try a goodwill warranty or try and split it or go aftermarket.

So I have the extended warranty on the car up to 103000 miles, but when I called Acura last time they told me it wouldn't be covered under the warranty because the CEL had to do with my valves needing to be aligned which to me sounds like Sh*t. I'll call again, any recommendations on what I should say to get the warranty program to cover it?
