Carrier bearing leak?

Changing my oil today and notice the carrier bearing is leaking. Nothing crazy yet and there wasnt visible dirt around there. The car does have the infamous hum around 50-55. Is that caused by the carrier bearing? This is on the passenger side of the car....on driver side where tranny is it is clean as could be.

Is this a big problem on the TL? Car only has 37k on it. Im going to do the work myself. Just wondering if this is widespread, and how much other people have paid for parts...Thanks!

I forgot to mention this: is it possible if there is a broken motor mount it would leak and then drip down to the area of the carrier bearing? Or is there something else down there that is known to leak?

if you're talking about the area between the intermediate shaft and outter axel--a little grease is common. never heard of those going out esp at 37k. the hum could be tire wear

Cool. Thank you invalidalias! Yes there was only a little grease around that area...nothing crazy and it certainly is not dripping fluid or grease in the driveway or on the garage floor. Cool I'm glad its good to go. I think I need a motor mount and that it what is causing the hum.

hmmm motor mounts don't typically cause a hum. maybe a squeek(side mount). rarely do motor mounts go out at 37k
