car starts vibrating at 40mph
Have you done anything to your car lately? Like have you hit any bumps? Run over any animals? Or have you put in new tires?
It could be your alignment. It could be your wheels need to be balanced and rotated. That's why I ask if anything happened to your car recently.

I have a local gas station I go to when I want to mount new tires and balance and rotate. It costs me $40 for all 3 on the TL and $48 on the RDX (they charge +$2 for rims larger than 17 inches).
Check yelp for local tire places is my suggestion. Find a place that is reliable while not hurting your wallet at the same time.

I had the same problem with my 3G TL. I just bought it 3 weeks ago from private party seller. My vibrations/shaking kicked in after 60mph.

Steering wheel vibrates when I went above 60mph or higher, like that of a cellphone on silent/vibration mode. On top of that, the steering wheel also have a shake, like almost a left, right, left, right steering by itself.
I drove around on a cracked/slightly bent rim (f potholes) for 7 hours on the highway last weekend and the vibration was noticeable just from that.

Replaced the rim and had an alignment and the difference is so noticeable. Even before the rim was cracked there was some vibration. Now its smooth.

Mine has a similar problem but I can only feel the vibration in the gas pedal which I think is weird. Ill wait and see if it goes away once I get new tires cause Ill need some soon anyway
