Car starting issue

My 6 speed stopped turning over like if i try to start it without pressing in the clutch. I figured i would ask here before i started looking to save myself some time. it happened once last week and i blew it off as not having the clutch depressed all the way. then today it happened twice today so i am sure i have a part failing,
its going to be a sad day when i have to stop driving my tl or sell it.

I have not replaced the starter but I have replaced the battery recently. I really didnt think it was the battery since its new and all the lights work fine and i almost ruled out the starter since it seems to turn over fine once i try to start again.
today
1st time clutch in turn key i get radio lights and no turn over.
2nd time I try let off clutch and turn the key and same thing lights but no turn over
3rd try all the above again and it starts right up

I should have added it seems like it may be a switch telling the car the the clutch has been depressed and its OK to start but i have no idea where that safety switch is unless its behind the clutch pedal

you were correct. it wouldn't start again and this time i paid more attention and could hear it click every time i engaged the clutch which ruled out any safety switch. And for anyone else just remove the battery tray makes it a lot easier to change out the starter. I was able to use a socket extension and remove the 2 bottom battery tray bolts with out getting underneath the car.

any way thanks
