Car pulls hard right while accelerating / in gear!

Hi all,

My '05 6M is pulling right under acceleration. I've had it aligned and re-checked by Monro and they've assured me that it's within spec - while testing, they discovered that the pull really only occurs when the car is in gear and the clutch is engaged, and it worsens under acceleration. If I accelerate from a stop and then put into neutral, I notice the tension on the steering wheel relieves and the car tracks straight. This feels most significant at highway speeds, but I'm holding the wheel a little to the left most of the time driving around. I'd compare the feeling to torque steer but it occurs even when not accelerating provided that the car is in gear.

Monro suggested a transmission problem, maybe something with the diff.... I'm not convinced. I'm wondering if failed motor mounts or an axle might be a culprit? I did some searching but found a wide variety of responses... I'd be happy to provide any more relevant info to anyone willing to help!

Much appreciated
-Savage

EDIT: Forgot to add that I suspect my motor mounts may be failing for other reasons... I have a slight cabin vibration at startup/idle and shifts, particularly between low gears, are pretty clunky, especially starting from a stop and 1>2. Clutch and hydraulics have been recently replaced.

Hmmm, I suppose an issue with the LSD could cause the pull, but I'm thinking that is a very low probability. Much more likely candidates include worn suspension components, worn or broken mounts, or possibly an issue with one of the axles.

FWIW, my car tracks perfectly straight under virtually all power settings; even when I'm at WOT up near redline in first or second gear. I'm thinking your car should behave exactly the same way.

Regarding your clunky shifts, I have noticed the first few shifts following a cold start can be a bit clunky, but beyond that, the car is typically pretty smooth.

There has only been one time my '05 MT pulls/darts right....it was way out of alignment. It tracked straight...but it was not aligned at all.

What else could be the culprit? My vote is the control arm bushings. It aligns fine, but under load they aren't holding the control arm in place properly.

Worn compliance bushings will cause some crazy torque steer

Thanks to those who've replied... I think I'll start by further assessing my compliance bushings and will go from there. I'm leaning towards replacing the lower control arms vs. replacing bushings individually, do y'all have any suggestions otherwise?

if it's an OEM arm, gunna cost you yours to get one vs pressing in OEM bushings. I would never play with aftermarket arms.

My TL pulls slightly under hard acceleration too but that is normal for torque steer. If yours is too much, I would look at the tires aswell

Thanks WD - it's not that it pulls under hard acceleration, but whenever the car is under load, and seemingly increases with additional throttle. I'll see what I can find for oem bushings.
