Car possessed!

I bought a used 08 tl type s in June. Everything was great, then the nav started rebooting by itself. If I was stopped and that happened the car wouldn't move like the transmission was put into N. it was intermittent. No check engine light came on. So I logged the problems for the next two months and searched for threads that talked about similar problems.

Finally took the car back as it is still under warranty. The dealer called me two days after they has it. "Your battery cable was loose". Problems solved, no problems since.

Yes, I guess a loose battery cable could cause some electrical problems. The tranny issue seems a little perplexing though- maybe the ECU was going nuts with flaky power?

Anyway, sounds like you have the problem fixed. Time to start enjoying the car again.

make sure it "your battery cable is lose" is the main cause of the navi reboot because our TL is famous for navi unit failing and the symptom including navi keep reboot itself. FYI the navi unit is cost $2200 part only, however you can remove the unit and send back to Alpine to get refurbish for $300.

Yes I read a number of posts regarding the nav system failure. However it didn't make sense with the transmission issue happening at the same time.
