Car messing up please help!

so i was driving this morning, and while im at a stop light, my engine light came on and my car started driving outragous. i can floor the pedal and it was incease like a fricken turtle, it feels like the car is starting in 3rd gear, which it is... it stays in 3rd gear the whole time also. i tried throwing it in s-shift and shifting up and down but it will not work. not to mention if im holding on the brakes and press on the gas, it wont accellerate. i wanted to go get the code read but it wont come on at a good time. when it does come on im at school and what i do is, i unplug the battery for a while so the engine light goes off, then it will drive normally.. does anyone have any ideas? im waiting for the light to come on at a good time to get the code.. thanks in advance im a nooobie

The CEL doesn't have to be on to read a code. The ECM will store the code in most cases. Did you have a flashing "D" along with the CEL?

Take it and get the code read for free at any auto parts store and report back.

Not sure if you've done this, but read up on the 3x3 AT fluid drain/fill procedures and 3rd/4th gear pressure switch replacement.

No flashing d. And is that procedure and switch replacement mandatory?

In some situations your car will go into "limp mode" where acceleration and rpms are limited. I can't tell from your post if you're in limp mode or not. One thing to do (obviously), is shut the car off and restart it and see if goes back to normal.

The other thing is this loose cable or wire thing you were talking about yesterday. Are sure everything is properly connected and undamaged?

Really sounds to me like a trasnmission issue, but your should have a flashing "D".

Well, no, but.... do due diligence and read up on it. Then make your own decision.

And get the code read. That will help the most...It's hard to tell if you have a transmission issue or are in "limp mode". The code/s will help...

Sounds like you're in limp mode. May be an APP sensor....Code will tell..

So when you step on the break your car won't accelerate? Have you tried taking your foot off the break? lol sorry jk
Is this only in automatic drive or manual shift mode as well? If you put it in third, then it will take off in third and stay there. You said you are new so I have to cover the basics. Don't be offended.
