Hi guys, I have an 06 TL manual transmission with 81k miles and my car's having an issue when depressing the throttle while driving. When I release the throttle my car hesitates and jerks from time to time. It doesnt happen all the time but once in a while. I did research on the web and it was stated that it could be spark plugs, MAP sensor, dirty throttle body, clutch, timing belt, or clutch. It cant be the clutch because it was replaced just recently. I just recently changed the air filter to CAI as well a few months back. My question is, has anyone had this kind of problem on their car? Any info would help. Thanks!

 

Could also be your APP (accelerator pedal position) sensor.

 

your description is WAY to broad.
i'm paraphrasing here... "when I release the pedal, it sometimes hesitates."
yeah, when you let go of the throttle, the injectors turn off. no fuel is going through the engine and with a 6mt, depending on the RPMS, you might get a little jerk. sounds normal to me.

but then again your description is way to broad.
refine your description by giving exact details on when it happens and in what conditions.

 

when driving normal and letting my foot off the accelerator the car jerks hard like i was hit from behind by another car. Usually letting go of the accelerator on my car means the car just coasts and gradually stops but its like a jerking motion and if it happens and i try to press on the gas again right when it happens the car will shutter over and over and id have to apply the brakes for the car to "reset" ans drive normally again. A few months ago it happened once every few days and wasnt a hard jerk but recently its become more frequent. Just trying to see if any other members experience something like this before having to pay to have it diagnosed. Thanks for any help

that's odd to me that the car is "bucking" when let off of accelerator.

 

With this level of detail, two thing come to mind for me.

#1 - Engine Mounts
#2 - APP Sensor

My APP sensor was failing and caused some odd behaviors. On mine, it was mostly due to low throttle input was jumpy has all hell and impossible to drive smoothly. During that time since my engine was so jumpy, I noticed some rocking/bucking feeling from the engine when letting off the accelerator which led me to my side engine mount which was shot. I replaced my APP sensor and my side engine mount and resolved my issues.

If you want to do somewhat of a test of your APP sensor, see if the same rocking/bucking feeling exists when dropping off of cruise control. Using cruise control takes the APP sensor out of the picture so you can see if the bucking/hesitation goes away or not.

 

thanks for the input! it definitely sounds like the issue can be stemming from the app sensor. I read that this part goes bas around 70-80k miles which is where my car is at. Definitely will see if replacing this will fix the issue.

Don't base it on mileage...mine went in the 120k'ish range I think...and even at that, it wasn't the more typical complete failure. Mine was impossible to have smooth throttle input. So trying to take off in 1st, I basically would stall it, buck it, or light 'em up. Driving through the neighborhood in 2nd trying to hold 25mph, the car was jumpy like I had a bad miss. No CEL was ever thrown on mine. My wife thought I had lost my mind when she rode with me since I couldn't drive smoothly anymore.

 

Just an update i replaced my app sensor and the issue is still present. I have looked into my motor mounts and noticed the passenger side mount is cracked. Decided to just get new front and passenger side motor mounts and see if that solves the issue.
