I recently purchased an '08 TL and since I've had it I've never been able to get more than 300 miles on what the gauge says is a full tank. Seem to be Getting good gas mileage 22-25 mpg. However when it is empty I can normally get about 13 gallons pumped back into it. The computer says I should have 430 miles til empty however I'm lucky to get like I said 300 miles before it says I need to fill up again. Anyone have any clue why??? Thanks!

 

430 miles on 13 gallons would be 33 mpg... you are taking the computers averages to literal.

That 430 is after fill up at reset, you will never achieve that number.

Keep in mind you are working with "calculations" that will continue to change based on your driving style.

The tank holds 17.1 gals. My gas light comes on with about 4 gal left in the tank, so 13 gal fill up is normal.

 

I do know I would never get 430 miles or 33 mpg out of a full tank of gas. Just wondering if I had a problem or if this was a standard feature to get only 300 miles on a full tank of gas at around 22-23 mpg

 

EPA rated fuel mileage:
18 city
26 highway

Or if completely empty, 17.1 gallons would yield 307 miles to 444 miles depending on the driving conditions.
