A/C blowing weak and not very cold

Hi all,

So i recently go my 06 TL back up and running after almost a year of sitting (due to illness). A/C wouldn't turn on so I took it in and they replace the blower fan and resistor. I did replace the cabin air filter. It never blew that hard to begin with, but it definitely was much colder. They als evaced and recharged, and said the compressor and such were good. I did look through the relevant post here, and I and iwas curious if the mix motor is the problem.

When I lower or raise the temp, i can see the arm move on the motor (passenger side), but Im not sure when it is suppoesrd to.move and how far. It only seems to move when i get to Lo or Hi or there about, but doesn't move at any point in between. Not sure if that is working as intended. The only other issues i know of at this time: slight crack in the top pf the radiator, and gaskets for the valve cover and intake need to be replaced. Not sure if those would jave any impact, but felt I'd mention it just in case.

I have tried closing off vents, switching between modes, recirculate, dual, and different temps and speeds. Not using auto. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: after looking again the arm only seems to activate when switch between 79 and 80

Get a thermometer and measure the temp. Something like this:

That will give you an idea if whatever you do actually improves the performance.

Try cleaning the condenser. It's a little tricky with the bumper cover in the way but you should be able to at lease rinse it off with a garden hose. Spray through the grill as best you can and if you're able to reach it or have a narrow brush, you can try to scrub it a bit. I've used one of those long narrow snow removal brushes that you stick in your trunk to wipe it down a bit. A little dishsoap may help with whatever buildup there is. If the condenser isn't adequately cooling the refrigerant, nothing else will matter. Also check that both of your fans are running at full speed with the AC is on.

When you're measuring temp with the thermometer, check to see if the compressor is continuously running. Open all windows, turn on outside air (not recirculate) and full fan/AC. If the compressor kicks off when the air isn't at least 45F, then I'd bet you have too much or too little refrigerant. It may kick off for just a moment, especially if the ambient temp isn't at least 85F or so. But it should be running most of the time and shouldn't be kicking off unless the temp falls around 45F or less. If the mechanic referenced a generic pressure table or graph when he refilled, he may have overfilled it. Honda AC systems seem to spec the AC system a bit lower than the generic spec sheet.

For example, if the ambient temp is 90F when the system is tested, most generic tables will tell you the low should be around 50psi and the high around 250-275psi. However, the Honda/Acura service manual states only 35 - 40psi for the low and about 175 - 200psi for the high.

When I measured mine last summer I filled it to the generic specs which resulted in the compressor continually kicking on and off due to the overfilled system, alternating between about 50F - 55F. That will happen if the pressure is too high to avoid damage to the compressor. Then I found the actual spec from Honda after which it blew at a steady 40F.

If you feel comfortable with it, you can purchase an AC manifold gauge set from somewhere like Harbor Freight and test it yourself. It's pretty easy with tutorials on Youtube. If not, and you've tried everything else, take it back to the mechanic and ask them to remeasure the pressure and assure it's at the Honda specs.
