Buzzing when starting?

All of a sudden I hear a static or buzzing when I turn my key to start the ignition. If I turn the key all the way over the car starts and it doesn't buzz, but if I do it slowly, I get a prolonged static noise. I thought it was the radio, but it isn't. Any ideas what this could be?

Very well could be the fuel pump; having the key on the ON position (just before starting the engine) primes the fuel pump.

Either that, it's the starter. It really depends on where the noise is coming from -- back of the car, steering column, or engine bay??

He hasn't started the engine yet.

Thomwarn, try to open your door/window and listen to it again in next time you turn your key. See if the sound is louder and from outsides.

"Lev: Russian components, American components, all made in taiwan. [This is how we do things in russian space station] (proceedes to hit device with wrench). And who would have thought, it fixes it." Can you feel the vibrations in the steering colum(sp)?

I just got this problem tonite too, anyone have this as well? It's a buzzing or static sound just before the engine turns. The slower you turn the key the longer the buzz. If anyone got this fixed by a dealer, do you remember what the probelm was? It sounds like it's coming from the instrument cluster.

I gave this a try (based on this thread alone) and have no issues. Obviously this doesn't answer your question, but this is not a normal thing.

I have that problem too. It would happen every so often. When I try to start the car I would hear a buzz or like an electrical shock type of sound. Then I click it again then it would be ok. I thought it was because I added an after market alarm. So it appears I'm not the only one who is having that problem. No doubt it is from the steering column.

I don't know if it's intermittent on mine or not. I've tried starting it maybe 4 times since i've noticed and it's always there.

the sound i hear when i twist to the *ON* position (before cranking) sounds reminiscent of a fuel pump and fuel system check. heard it since day one, and is normal (at least to me). ive tested Evos with high flow fuel pump and you cant believe the amount of clicking and buzzing noises those make prior to starting.

There is a bulletin on the TL's for the fuel pump relay under the driver's dash fuse box:

The Bulletin 07-017 came out on March 14th, 2007. This is for 2005 TL with the VIN: 19UUA..5a046061 thru 19UUA..5A067961.

That noise has happened on my car several times, it is an 04. I had this same noise from time to time on my 03 Accord. Never had any problems in starting, I think it might be the noise that some Honda products make from time to time. It is an electrical sound and sounds like it comes from the left side of the dash.

I remember a while back, some guy had that problem and he took it to the dealer were they changed that relay and he said that it still did the same.

I also get this buzz, but is not that often. It sucks when you take the car in to the service dept and it doesn't want to do it. Makes me feel stupid.
