Burning smell after driving?

For the past two days I have been noticing a rubber burning smell after I pull into the garage. I used to notice this smell if I was driving in sport mode but I thought it was normal.

I thought it might be my HID fogs since I have added a 15A fuse. The ballast/wires/fogs are fine. I smelled the area where the fogs are and no burning smell is present in those areas.

The smell is not coming from the engine bay. I haven't narrowed it down yet but its definitely not the engine bay nor the fogs. The only time my fogs turned on today was when I pulled into the garage and they might have been on for a minute so I highly doubt its them.

Any suggestions?

Did you run over a plastic bag and it got stuck on your exhaust?

Could it be a belt slipping? Causing extra friction...

Or did you just drive way too damn fast and melt your tires?

Check your rear tires after driving for awhile.. try smelling 'em haha i'm sure that where the problem lies.

you might have to get your break pads changed .

So I did some errands tonight and when I came home the burning smell was evident. I still could not pinpoint it. So what I did was I turned the lights on. The burning smell became a bit stronger.

I pulled back the covers where my fogs are and both sides seemed to have the burning smell faintly. The ballast/bulbs/wires/OEM Foglight plug were cold to the touch. Even after being on for 5 min they were cold to the touch.

Could the fogs possibly be burning something in the back? Only reason I am worried is because I changed the 10A fuse to 15A. I might change it back to 10A and see whats up.

Recently I used to have my lights on all the time so when I would unlock my car the lights would turn on. My HID fogs would making a hissing noise so I stopped doing that. (Maybe related?).

I've had that happen. Even after removing as much excess as possible, it still smelt like melting plastic for days.

I'd say switch the fuse back to 10A and see what happens.

So I did a test this morning. I made sure my HID fogs were off and I started up the car. After 5 min of idling and light revving I got no burning smell. I then went for a drive for about 2 min (around the neighborhood). When I was pulling into the garage I could smell the burning smell in the car. When I got out the burning smell was strong.

This is with the HID fogs never being turned on. The smell is still coming from the front and maybe the rear its like all around the car? I checked for a plastic bag and did not find anything. Plan on removing the HID fogs and putting in stock bulbs and taking it to Acura if smell persists.

This smell seems similar to the one I got when I drove in sport mode awhile back. After driving the car in sport mode over the summer I was getting a burning smell that went away. Could this possibly be transmission fluid burning?

Well check the color of the transmission fluid, if it's burning it should be black or getting to the point of being black.

Hi
I have noticed the same smell on my car. I have an '08 TL with AT, but sometimes when I use sport mode, I can smell a bit of a burning smell. I've been having a couple other minor issues with my trans, so I thought it could be related to that but I'm not sure.

I do not use my fog lights at all. I have not made any mechanical, performance or substantial changes to the car since I got it this summer (just tinted the windows).

I had a similiar problem with an '02 TL-S, if it is a very strong burning smell and you got some tranny issues, then it has to be the tranny dumping out fluid due to overheating.

There is a NHTSA Safety Recall for that. Anyone who has NOT had their PS hose replaced should take it the dealership and have it done. A leaking PS hose has the potential to cause a fire.

There is NO charge regardless of age, mileage or warranty status. It is a federally mandated safety recall and it is free.

It applies to almost all 3G TL's. To check the VIN Range follow the link below and then follow the instructions in Post #1. After that open TSB 08-016.
