Broken Keyfob?
Broken Keyfob?
So I'm breaking in my '05 TL and tested out the 2nd keyfob from the previous owner. The key works, but the keyfob part is dead (unlock, trunk etc). Not a big deal, the battery tests dead so I replace it. I figure it would work, but nope. Make sure my other keyfob still works, but the 2nd one appears to be dead. I tried the sync methods, and that's a no good. The LED light doesn't light up when pressing the button. I took it apart, and nothing appears broken - no corrosion or missing capacitors. The labels are worn off the but insides still click just fine.
Any ideas? Probably not that much that can be done, but I thought I'd ask. Is there a recommended replacement that I can get for cheap?

FWIW: First, you should determine which key fob is inoperative, Is it #1 or #2. Once you figure weather it's #1 or #2, you can order an OEM fob on Ebay for less than $25.00. IMO, it's probably not worth the effort to attempt to repair yours.
Thanks for the tip. I did find used ones on ebay, but it made me think on how someone else is refurbishing them.
Soooooo, for anyone interested - try cleaning the battery contacts first. Mine looked fine, but the 3 prong tips (the negative size) were covered in corrosion upon closer inspection. Since it's just the smallest part of the tips, it's really hard to see. Normally I would clean them with Isopropyl Alcohol, but I'm out and settled on MAF sensor cleaner as a substitute. Really, I'd think any electrical cleaner should work. A few sprays and scrubs with a Q tip and the remote is working again - Hooray for the red LED.
Cheers!
