I have an 05 Tl and just today I was pulling the cover to my cup holders up and it snapped in half...doesnt seem major but this is the type of thing small detail that will drive me crazy!, does anyone out there possibly have a lead on how I can get a replacement to this? or if this is covered by warranty?, any help would be much appreciated.

Check with the dealer? I can't see it being expensive. If it is, check junk yard?

No problem man. We all have to learn somewhere.

There's a wealth of info on this site. In case you haven't checked it out yet, make sure you look through the 3G garage. A lot of info in there regarding installing, removing, replacing parts... as well as DIY's, How-to's, and FAQs...

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-tl-service-department-aka-garage-questions-answers-check-here-first-553557/

IIRC, you can separate each little slat separately. If you remove the middle console, you will have access to the cupholder. The cup holder is attached by 3 screws to the base, then there will be come clips to remove the retainer cover. You can then remove the 4 screws at the rear of the cupholder to separate the track and remove the cover.

You SHOULD be able to remove the broken section and attach a non-broken one...it will be 1 slat shorter, but there's a few extra in the line, I think. I have taken my cupholder off a few times for some LED installs in the cupholders, so I'm about 50% certain this should work from what I remember seeing...

Give it a shot? Should only take about 45mins.

When you said remove the middle console, you mean where the arm rest is?, do I have to remove the silver panel a long the side of the center console and the cup holder, if I have to remove that can you tell me how, thank you.

I bought mine from here:

http://www.thetoolnetwork.com/panel_...l_company.html

You can really just pull the silver strips out with your hands if your really careful. I don't own a TL anymore, but IIRC start at the rear and gently pry up - you should hear it pop up.

you can also use a butter knife wrapped in something thin and soft...i have used a thin eye glass cleaner rag. the trick is just slow and steady.

Same thing happened to me...

...when I went to close the cover only half of it came out.

I see it costs about $50 to replace the whole cup holder assembly. Apparently they don't sell just the cover.

My TL has very low mileage. Therefor, it must be heat and age related rather than use. Defective materials, I would say.

Does anyone know whether or not the Cupholder Assembly was offered in more than one color? It seems odd that the Acura parts lists for this item almost always specify gunmetal grey as the color (but do not list any other color choices.) My 2005 TL has an Ivory interior and the cupholder definitely looks more black than grey, but I'm not certain.

I noticed the same thing. My cup holder is definitely black but, then, so are most of my guns.

As I said: "It must be heat and AGE related" as the cover has not been used very much.

My TL, always garaged, is still in showroom original condition.

I think it might be an issue with the plastic material Acura used. I'd be willing to bet that the same supplier also did the dashboard and hence the cracking issues that many owners are having.

I have an 05 TL with ivory interior that has this problem. Gunmetal is definitely the right color. I ordered the part & just got it in today. Wish there was a video or pictures to direct the replacement. I'm concerned about bending the trim pieces trying to get them out. I'll take pictures & if I'm successful, will post them.

Same thing happened to me today, I went to close it and only an 1" came out. Looks like cheap material, but at least it doesn't squeak and rattle like everything else. Since I have to replace a seat heater bulb, looks like I'll get 'em both done at the same time.

Mine is split in at least 7 places, so I guess I'll go ahead a tackle this. This is first in a few nagging things I plan to take care of next year

1. broken retractable cup holder cover
2. Driver side side marker light doesn't work most of the time.
3. Cruise control switch on steering wheel won't stay down, have to pry something thin in their to keep it in
4. Passenger side rear door lock doesn't work (more than likely a bad actuator)

I can do #1 and #2 by myself, but #3 and #4 I'll probably let the stealership do, especially the cruise control switch.

Anyway, I've looked in the 3G garage for installation instructions on the new cup holder assembly, but didn't see it for this. Another site says I have to take out the entire center console (including the navigation system). Obviously I don't want to do that if I can avoid it, does anyone have any pictures of them installing this?

No you don't have to remove the Navi. Start by removing the two metal garnishes(start from the arm rest end) and then you'll see the screws to get to cupholder.

Thanks! I finally got one of the metal things off just so I could see the screws I need to get to. I feel comfortable enough now to install the new assembly once I order it

Fixed mine with rubber infused super glue...

Not sure how long this will hold as I just did it last night, but seems to be working well so far. I used Bob Smith Industries IC-2000 which is infused with rubber making it a slightly flexible super glue. You can find it at places like Hobby Town or online. I thought I'd try that first since it's only $5, and if it doesn't hold, order the new part. I can't really see the break in the plastic, so it looks like a decent solution for now...

How do you retrieve the broken part that falls back into the console without removing the console?

^ it should be, but its a real simple fix. I don't have my TL anymore, but I think the part is about 60 bucks. If I can find the service manual CD I bought, I'll post the instructions on how to replace it, if its not already in the 3G garage.

Mine broke in exact place as the pictures in the 6th post. Fortunately, it was still connected on the passenger's edge so I used some Rhino Glue to repair the crack. I like the idea of having some tape on the bottom edge- perhaps some Gorilla tape would do a nice job to keep things together.

Don't do the tape trick with the cover still in place. I just did and what a mistake that idea was. I cut a 6 inch peace of tape and was hoping to use a ruler to help stick the tape onto the ceiling of the cover. I guess I cut too long- the cover is jammed so I just left it in the open position. I think some tape on the under-side when you install a new cover might be a good idea but it's not when it's already attach- unless you want 2" worth of protection on the front edge. There is not much clearance for attaching the tape to the cover otherwise.

lOl... mine did the same thing about a month ago. I just leave it open now. Been wasting my money on other projects. Good to know I'm not the only person that happen to and it's an easy fix.

I just replaced my cupholder assembly- just a one hour job.

I did take apart my old cupholder assembly to see how this issue could be repaired.

I would take the assembly apart and run some flexible but strong tape on the back side of the cover- perhaps a wide form of black electrical tape would work. The Gorilla tape that I originally used is too stiff and will make the sliding action hard. My original 'fix' that horked things up was jammed so bad it was hard to break the track out of the housing. Gorilla tape is good stuff- just not for this type of application.
