Brake Squeal

My 07 TypeS has 17k miles, and the front brakes have started to squeal already...is that normal? Shouldn't the brakes last till at least 25-30k? I can see the metal strip touching the pads already?

Should i just bend the strip back for now? or have them replaced?

If i do have them replaced, what's a good replacement pad that's close to oem but less brake dust...

Thanks in advance!

Just curious if they "groaned" (just prior to coming to a stop) when the car was newer.

It's possible that your brakes are worn to the point where they require replacement. It depends on how you drive.

These brakes do not impress me AT ALL. They have mediocre "feel," about average stopping power and are noisy.

daily driving, mostly highway...only a couple of hard stops, but nothing major i don't think...it just seems they are worn out fast.

i'm not sure of the "groaned" part, but they have been reliable for me thus far...just the squealing is annoying and embarrassing...especially since the car is still pretty new...

the noise makers are there to send a constant reminder to fix the brakes NOW before you wear past the min thickness, and damage the calipers is possible from there

Dont bend them put of the way

I just heard a weird 'howl' or groan as I came to a stop today, with the wheel turned strongly (pulling into a parking space, going .... 2 mph? I couldn't believe it was my car, so I reversed, and pulled back in with the wheel in the same orientation ... same exact noise! Very loud.

I have only 4.5k miles on my TL (not TL-S). I'm going to ignore it and see if I hear it again. I have driven the car super-gently so far; never above 90mph, no hard stops, nothing. Very strange!

That may be your problem- too gentle driving
I brake from 80+ just to clean the brakes after wife has been driving a lot

Brakes like to be used and pads get glazed easily when dragged sloooooowly to a stop, or driven in lots of stop and go traffic- that eats brakes and gets them hot without a cooling off drive at speed after
