I have a 05 TL and car was running good didn't notice anything until I got home, turned the car off and my brake lights are on as well as the 3rd brake light. any idea of what could've happened and how to fix?
It's either a bad switch or battery power is somehow now melted past the switch. It's a pretty simple circuit so you should just unplug the brake pedal position switch and see if it turns off your lights. If the lights turn off, then it's because of a bad switch.

I mean it's good to be sure that work you are doing will actually fix the problem, right?
I agree with you.
You've probably noticed that people are fast to confidently post a solution without providing any info on how to confirm it first. OPs are also happy to start throwing parts at their cars too.

I chuckle every time I see this diagram due to a mistake on it. The way it is currently drawn, it would be a dead short each time the pedal is pressed. Notice that the WHT/BLK is fed from 12V+ and has a direct path to GND. The 2nd line from the left should not exist to the bottom.
Yeah, usually there is some remnant of the stopper pad on the floor somewhere. That gives it away!
Thanks for the confirmation.
Always start with the simple stuff, then work towards the more difficult.
