Battery light issue

Hey everybody,

So I have had my Type-S for about a month now. The first week I had the car the battery light came on. I took it to Advance and had them test the battery and alternator. The battery was good, the alternator was good resting but showed low voltage under load - around 12.8 volts... So i figured I needed a new alternator. I didn't feel like messing with it right then so I have been driving it around since then with the light still on. This past weekend I figured I would finally change it out. When I went to pick up the alternator I had them test the battery and alternator again and everything was fine. So I drove across town to an Autozone and had them check it - battery and alternator good! I drove to about 4 hours to a family reunion this weekend and had it checked again up there and everything was good!

Has anyone had a similar issue? There are no signs that it could be the alternator. It runs fine, electronics are fine, starts fine, etc. Are there any fuses or anything that could be causing the light? I really don't feel like changing the alternator if I don't need to.

Thanks

could be a belt tension issue that's causing sporadic issues.

I replaced the belt tensioner last week so I would hope that's not it

It could be your alternator starting to go. Keep an eye on it for sure. If the light comes back on I would change the alternator & battery at the same time. I have 164,000 miles on my 07' Type S and just waiting for that light to come on. I'm amazed the alternator hasn't gone yet.

Well the light has actually been on this whole time, but aside the first time, each time I had the battery and alternator tested they were fine. I may just change it out just to see if that fixes it.

I wouldn't put too much trust on the 'test' they do. I've had batteries and alternators that "test" fine but still are problematic.

Yeah you were right... I changed the alternator and the battery light went off. Thanks for the advice
