Bad Transmission?
Bad Transmission?
My '06 TL with about 30,000 miles has started to act up. Specifically, when braking the car goes through its normal downshift routine but appears to skip a gear either from 3rd or 4th gear. I also just noticed a strange whining sound coming from under the hood when I'm driving exactly 30 mph. Is my transmission going bad? Can the dealership fix this or will they have to replace the entire tranny? I've used (or abused) the "manual" shifter a lot. Sometimes without realizing it, I forget to shift and notice I'm doing 50 or more in 2nd gear. Did I cause the transmission problems myself? Hope this is still under warranty.
you can't hurt the engine with an automatic trans TL- even in SS mode- the rev limiter kicks in and prevents overrev upshift, and the computer prevents downshift at too high a speed- thats when the gear number you asked for blinks- then returns to displaying the current gear. If you are too fast and would overrev.
Use of SS doesnt affect the trans and the car does like to run ~
Call the dealer and speak with the service manager- ask if you can drop by and the head tech can take a ride around the block with you. If its hard for someone else to notice- you need to demonstrate it for the tech.
Acura dealers do not go inside the transmissions to fix anything. If its a small external something- a computer type part or sensor- they can change those.
If its internal, they order a warranty replacement/rebuilt to new specs- unit and install
HAve it checked now, even if the say PNF Problem Not Found- its documented in case of failure after warranty- they can cover you.
Smell the trans dipstick- any burned smell to it?
