You didn't say what type of transmission you have.

there have been some failures with the 04 tranny's on this board, i know the updated tranny for the 2nd gens dint come out til like feb 05, so i think you should take this up to acura corporate, and c if they can reimburse the full amount, or atleast have you pay only for labor.

The dealer is screwing you big time, and needs to talk with Regional rep on your behalf
the 800 number is staffed by low paid non car people whose job is to say no- dont get frustrated with them - they put everything in their report- then a real supervisor calls you back- and Blackberries across the area go off with copy of your complaint

The gen2 cars have a horrible trans failure record and the gen3 cars followed right along
Our latest and best improvement with a NEW case and oil passage design came in feb 05 and by mid 05 only good ~new/rebuilt trans were shiped to the dealers since then!
Have a read in Gen2 thread on transmission failure
The 04-05 has the exact same prob as 99-93

Acura should AT MOST-- ask you for labor of 4-6 hours to install and no parts cost
If you pay any part cost you get 3 year 36k miles warranty
Negotiate everything, but go to the service MANAGER and the dealer General Manager if needed

If you bought the car there or had it serviced there ever- they should be showing more goodwill than 2000 on a prob that plauged gen2
gen2 even got a COURT order 7year+9 month / 109k mile warranty- remind them of that, and ask how many freebies they do a week on those cars- its about 4 a month most places
Good Luck

I think he was asking you if it was manual or automatic, which by the way, you answered.

I also agree that the dealer is shafting you and wish you luck with the probable run around before you get taken care of properly on this one. It's crazy how there is no uniformity with warranty issues and dealerships across the country dealing with KNOWN Acura problems!

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

I suspect the dealer has already talked with Acura and they are kicking in half of the cost. It is very unlikely that the dealer will volunteer to take a $2k hit when they bear no responsibility for the problem.

The dealer does not take a hit in any way- let that idea go~

Acura is paying them, maybe not as much as they charge you per hour, but a buck is a buck!
Always negotiate for a better deal- who settles for the first offer on anything??
print out part of gen2 threads on trans failure-
gen3 just hasnt ended up in court case yet.
Its all about being nice to the SERVICE MANAGER, make sure thats who you speak with, direct and in person.
Mentioning acurazine can help too- as a happy customer tells 2 friends and an unhappy customer goes online and tells millions

You are a nice person I'm sure. Are you at all aware of the automatic transmission problems that Honda/Acura has had over the past few years?

The replacement remanufactured transmission should be very close to no charge! I hope the OP got a loaner as well.

Just look on the gen3 thread list- trans failure is worse than gen2 cars

Keep your receipts- you could get that 1500 back if this all goes to court like gen2s did

Sounds to be like they jacked up the price bigtime and then said i would split it with you. Should be about $2,000 and then said I will split it with you.

where do you get your prices phat?
The dealer retail price installed is $4000, acura warranty cost and labor rate they pay dealer may be less than that total but joe consumer is never gong to get that price.

The OP did good considering they are still jacking you gen3 guys
Certainly one of you is an attorney or knows one, and can get the court case like gen2!!
we get 7years+9 months or 109k miles, and they are ~goodwill~ replacing many after time or mileage limits for no or very low cost.

you are out of your mind if you think the 3 gen trans fails more than the 2 gen trans. at my dealer we do about 1 3 gen every month and about 5 2 gens a WEEK. and the 2 gen trans arent showing up like they used to. we used to do close to 20 2 gens a week. i even did 3 in one day once. the 3 gens are not failing anywhere close to the rate of the 2 gen. we will see what happens in 5 years when they have more miles. with the trans coolers and the mid which has more frequent trans fluid changes the 3 gen transmissions should last alot longer.

I read the gen3 threads here on azine on trans failures, and a large number of cars
- for the total of them on the road- are having trans failure at mileage starting at 13k miles was lowest I read and 30k being right on schedule.

Add more HP and Torque to a mediocre auto transmission clutch system and you are going to get worse problems than gen2 IMO

By your math of 1 g3 per month now, what will that become as more are hitting 50k plus, such as the OP of this thread with 80k miles, and failure.
The 6sp manual has its own problems

I am grateful to be covered on acura court ordered warranty extension, but I wouldnt buy a gen 3 without a full 100k warranty on it-- would you?
