Bad Transmission ?

So I bought this 2005 TL 3.2 off the marketplace.
Here’s a list of things I’ve replaced not to necessarily fix the problem but to maintain some parts
-starter
-spark plugs
-valve cover gasket
-trans fluid + Lucas

my car will drive well for like 10 minutes then randomly it goes limp up hills.
I drive it sometimes up to 80+ no problem for like 30 minutes. Not sure what it is. It’s not slipping… well doesn’t feel like it
the symptom is there though
HIGH RPM and 0 acceleration.
Trans isn’t the best but I’m not sure, what do you guys think?

Considering what you are describing is one of the most common transmission complaints on these cars...I would start with reading up on the forums regarding maintenance of the transmissions. You have already replaced the fluid, but didn't state what condition the fluid was in before. At this point, I can think of three of the more common ones I have seen on here.

1.) clogged pressure switches
2.) gear position sensor
3.) she done...time to rebuild/replace

Check your fluid again to see if it is already darkening down or getting a burnt smell to it.

yeah the oil was in GARBAGE condition before I changed it, like thick asf and the transmission filter smelled and looked burnt

Which means most likely neglected prior to your ownership which isn't a great sign. Check the fluid now and see how it has aged in a short period of time. When you replaced the fluid, did you do a flush, a 1x3, a 3x3? How much did you get out and get back in? How much "junk" is still in there?

not gonna lie not a lot came out maybe 1 singular quart but I couldn’t tell if that’s all that was in there
ended up dumping more after I put the new tranny fluid in and the new fluid came out idk if the old fluid is in there idk

0 engagement after tranny oil change

The oil was bad and I changed it
about 1 pint of the bad oil spilled I’m not sure if that was all I ended up draining some of the new oil to see if the old oil would drop when the car was warm.
5% of all my startups the car would go forward and backwards I’m not sure if it’s a loose connection/bad sensor or my transmission just went to trash. Where should I start? I’ve checked the axle and there’s nothing broken there..
I’ve ordered a transmission range switch so far…

If it only drained 1qt of cooked fluid, I'd also say your transmission as a whole is likely toast.

Transmission range switch would most likely be hinted at by a flashing D on the dash, or something else wonky with the display....usually. The fact that you aren't telling a great story on the fluid is my focus. If you only replaced 1 pint of fluid, you need to get back to that. If you only replaced 1pt or 1qt, you have barely touched on the old fluid in the transmission. Plenty of threads on here that talk about the 1x3 or 3x3 process for fluid exchange on the auto transmissions. But most likely...the trans is toast at this point.

These transmissions fail in a way where they work fine on cold starts, then stop as the fluid warms up. My money is on it being dead.

could it be a pressure switch?
I don’t think it’s the trans I drove it Fine before the fluid change unless the fluid ruined the transmission?

Any updates? I believe my '05 TL's automatic transmission needs replacement. I do need to change the transmission fluid, but am not sure if that would correct the issues. Currently, as I accelerate (at around 20-25mph) the car will rev, but not switch gears until almost red-lining and then the car will lurch forward as it switches gears. Something similar happens around 40mph as I decelerate. Gears are slipping or something as it feels like I'm trying to drive a manual transmission vehicle and I'm screwing up as I try to shift gears. I'm going to replace the transmission fluid and see how things go, but a pretty concerned. The "D" was flashing on my car. Also, I had experienced the revving/red-lining before, but never the lurching/"slipping?" of gears. As a note, I recently changed my valve cover and plenum gaskets. Not sure if that would somehow contribute...
