Bad gas

I had really really bad farts on a 2hour trip after eating beef stroganoff. I must have farted the whole two hours with the seat heater on high. It has been two days and the smell is still there. I think the seat heater fused the smell to the seat. Fabreeze is not working. I am afraid of sitting in the car to long or I will smell of old used farts.

What will get this out?

ok seriously, if you have an access to a secure garage, roll all the windows down and Febreeze the shit out of the seat, but if its leather make sure you wipe it semi-dry before leaving it. It should go away. I remember I left some leftover dimsum in the trunk our TL for a week and when I popped the trunk it was the most rancid smelling crap ever. It had to be toxic, the smell was unbelievable. I probably lost a few brain cells from sniffing that... I had to POUR Febreeze on it and leave the trunk open.

I hope it is just farts, I have not checked my trunk. I don't have a garage but I do have a car cover. I'll give it a go. So do you still eat dim sum after smelling that?

I googled the problem and this seems to be a worldwide phenomenom. The bad news is there's no solution. Just sarcastic replies.

Me too.

Still can't understand the febreze craze. It doesn't get rid of smell. It only combines with the smell to make one disgusting stench. Another invention by lazy Americans. Clean the goddamn rug/couch/comforter if it smells.

Yea, my car smells like old used farts and fabreeze. Didn't work. I may have to scrub the seats. If that doesn't work I'll replace them. Maybe scotch guarding it would have made it fart resistant. No more beef stroganoff for me. I never thought that the seat heater would have welded the fart smell into the car. My fiancee won't even get in the car and she farts a lot too.

Febreeze works for me.... no way in hell I'm renting a rug doctor just to clean out my carpet in my car/house again. It works better than anything else but a rug doctor works well.

oh yeah last summer I had a 40 ounce of beer in my trunk, but I have a hatchback and I forgot to put down the divider flap that separates the trunk from the car. So needless to say the trunk got really hot (it was 85+ outside) and when I went out to my car it smelled HEAVILY like stale beer. the 40 oz literally exploded, because in the trunk the bottled was in pieces and my trunk had a nice little puddle of old, fermenting beer in it. There were even small pieces of glass on my dashboard, so yes it was an explosion.

Over the course of two days it got even worse, but still not as bad as the dim sum. Anyways I rented a rug doctor and proceeded to steam clean the shit out of the trunk (I thoroughly went over it 2-3 times) then did every inch of carpet in my interior that I could. Afterwards, my car smelled like nothing. only the faint smell of the vinyl seats, since I didn't clean those.

again, if your seats are leather, not sure how well anything will work. I've also read you can go somewhere, I'm guessing a used or new car dealership where they have an ozone machine. They close all your windows, then pump the car with ozone from the vents and then air it out for a day, and supposedly that kills all the smell.

at least its your own fart

Try Ozium-- it cleared out a bad smell in a prior car of mine, but I can't remember what the smell was. After using the Ozium, there was no smell/odor whatsoever in the car, which will feel odd because one normally smells plastic, vinyl, and leather aromas in a car.
