bad battery, starter, or something else?
bad battery, starter, or something else?
Greetings,
New member here. I went to start my 04 after being out of town for two weeks, no dice. The lights and radio come on, but all I get when I turn the ignition to start is click click click click. Is my battery (original) finally too weak to get the starter working, or has my starter gone bad? Thanks for the help.

Battery too weak to turn the car over. Put your lights on and try and start, you'll see the lights dim considerably as the remaining power is pulled from the bat. Our OE battery went last weekend after sitting, just old and worn out.
You can have it tested to be certain, but I'd say put in a new bat and you'll be good to go.

My car had this problem today for the second time. The first was in the Summer of 2008 when I drove a few miles from my house to a shopping center. Parked for about 15 minutes and the car would not start. Called roadside assistance for a tow truck to get a boost. The nearby dealer said that everything checked out OK. I've had days where it seemed to be a bit of a struggle for the car to start. My car had been sitting since Monday, 2/16. It started today normally. I drove about 8 miles to a store where I waited in the car while my wife shopped. I sat in the car for about 20 min listening to XM and then the car would not start. Had to call for a tow truck again. I usually don't expect much from OEM batteries, but it seems that mine is crapping out a bit early as my car has 42000 miles and I've had it since Sept. 2006.
Should I expect the dealership to replace the battery?

battery-3 years
Jay,
Go to the dealer quick......I didn't at first check to see that we have 3 year battery warranties. I replaced my own 2.5 year old battery and had trouble proving it's failure when I'd turned in the old core.
Learn from me, if your car is under 3 years old you still will get a replacement, providing that yours meets the criterion.
