Automatic Trans Issue...

Hey guys,
Its been a long time since i have been on here, but after i sold my 06 Comptech TL i have always missed the car! So long story short after selling my Turbonetics G35 i bought another one. I bought it out of a Copart auction, BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER! Here is a little background:

Car was advertised as a 2004 TL Navi with 61k miles. I thought this was a great deal so i bid on it and ended up winning it for 6400.00 all said and done. With that said i had my friend check the InstaVIN and Carfax prior to bidding and found it had a clear title with not a single accident. Two owners and lots of service records from Curry Acura in NY. With him telling me this I jumped all over it.

The vehicle was shipped from NY to St. Paul where i live... I could instanly tell the vehicle had FAR MORE miles then 61k by the shape of the engine and leather. I looked through the paper work and found the last reported mileage on 12/31/12 was 261,305!!!!!! I flipped out!! Not to go on a rant i am working with Copart to get my money back but thats a whole issue in itself.

On to the trans issue. I drove it down the street and within 2-5 miles the engine light, ! Light, VAS Light and "D" Light started flashing. From all the lurking i have done on this site i knew my tras is shot. I have my own code reader and scanned it. I about crapped myself when it came back with "No signal coming from the Input Shaft Speed Sensor". I am hoping this means i can buy the 53.00 sensor and all will be good... But with all the issues i have had shipping this car (two carriers and 1300.00 later, broken window in shipping) i doubt that will be all i need to fix it. Even with the dash looking like a Christmas tree there is no slipping at all and the only noticeable issue is the car down shifts hard (Most likely because it has not idea how fast the trans is moving). Let me know what you think, I am still working on getting a full refund of the car but in case i cant i will need to get this fixed stat!

Side note, the engine in this car is crazy clean inside (pulled a valve cover), where is the VIN on the block so i can see if its ever been changed?

Thanks!!!

You're within the time to get your money back.. fraud at it's lowest.

Make sure you fight for every damn dime including shipping.

Believe me I am trying, they wont return any calls and say that I bought the car as is... I wouldn't have touched this car with a 10 foot pole if it even had 160k on it!

Any help with the trans? It shifts hard every time into reverse and into drive as well. If for some reason they wont take the car back I am going to try that sensor but I think its a reach!

The only good part about this car is the engine is very clean inside! I pulled the front valve cover and there is almost no staining or even burnt on oil!

Any help or advise I can get on the trans will help. Thanks!

Well.. just to be sure. Does the display show 261k or 61k.. if 61k.. check the records to be sure the 261k entry wasn't a mistake.

As majofo said, this is fraud. You also said you bought a Carfax, and you could have recourse there as well:

"The CARFAX Buyback Guarantee protects you from unknowingly buying a used car with DMV-reported incidents (salvage, fire, flood damage, odometer problems or lemon history). This coverage lasts one year and is transferable"

I also thought it was maybe a typo but it shows the first owner traded the car in on 11/3/06 with 61602. Then the second owner had the vehicle emissions tested on 12/23/08 with 138.874, Timing belt 6/19/09 with 158477, emissions again 11/27/09 177971, emissions 8/25/10 with 206427, emissions 8/29/11 244346, Vehicle offered for sale 11/20/12 with 261245, New York auto auction sold 12/31/12 with 261305.

Long story short I now have a 04 TL with a junk trans, 261k miles, and owe 7500.00 on it.

Fraud... did you buy this through eBay?

This is an easy case. Don't spend a dime doing anything to that car.

*Update*
I finally reached an agreement with Copart Auto Auctions. They claim that this was my fault and that I should have done my research before I bid on the car... This is true, but my friend had done so before I bid but he "missed" the mileage. It was Coparts fault as they had all the paper work showing 261k and chose to still list the car with 61k. Anyway Copart (after 5 days of no call backs and calling them ever hour on the hour) has decided to let me return the car. but here is the crap part, I am out the 1200.00 I paid in shipping. I agreed to this beacuse eating 1200 is WAY better then being stuck with a TL with 261k miles and a bad trans. Lets just say its an expensive life lesson. I now will be holding on to my 03 Accord for a while until I can save up the money I lost and find another 07+ TL Navi.

I know the immediate relief of getting out from under the car made you agree to the shipping but what they did is fraud and they should pay every penny, even for your wasted time if you really want to go that far. They are the ones that should be accepting your terms, not the other way around.

I fully agree but it was more of a take it or leave it deal so i took it. The long term money saved it worth losing the shipping. But now i see TLs everywhere and want one in the worst way! Oh well.

Fraud. Like we've been saying, you're not responsible for any costs. Makes me sick that you're compromising with them.

I have found a 07 Type S with 116k miles for 13800 but I think I am going to wait until spring to buy one. And a 6spd would be amazing but with my drive through the city every day a 6spd would be aweful! I think I will be finding a car through the BM on here next time!
