APP sensor question.
APP sensor question.
Done the pressure switches recently and do a fluid change 2x a year on the tranny.Shifts lazily at times and slight jerkiness at times.Under hard acceleration shifts real quick and firm as it should, just seems under normal driving shes lazy.07 type s 148k.always well maintained .Was wondering about the APP sensor. What does it do..is it accessible to easily change if recommended. Thanks all in advance.

G/L.
I believe the typical symptoms of a bad APP sensor is an input lag between hitting the accelerator and the car actually accelerating. I believe the sensor does just what the words say, it reads the position of your accelerator pedal and tells the computer how much to open the throttle. It seems that like many sensors, it can start to get out of spec and cause the pedal position not to be read as quickly as it should.
The APP sensor is located close to the firewall on the passenger side, near the passenger side strut tower. It is attached to the strut bar via a bracket with a 10mm bolt. Can be replaced it roughly 15 min.
Before buying the part, I would take the cover off the sensor and check to see how loose the cable running to it is. I don't know if the cable is actually called the "throttle" cable on this car, but excessive slack on that can cause issues. Two nuts are used to adjust it.
If the car feels like it is jerking between the gears, I would take a look at the engine and transmission mounts. I was having jerkiness, especially in low gears and low RPM shifts. I have a 5AT, but I suspect a 6MT would have similar symptoms for a bad mount/mounts.

To remove the APP sensor from the equation, repeat the testing you are doing with the cruise control. Set the cruise, and then hold the accelerate button until it downshifts. If it behaves the same, not the APP sensor.
